Tranny cooler
My Jimmy has a rebuilt 700R4. It was rebuilt about 8 months before I bought. No wanting another tranny failure while I own it, I installed an external cooler.
Installation was easy. I also installed the lines reversed because GM changed the hose connections. After verifying the return line, I redid the lines for maximum cooling. |

Re: Tranny cooler
I would not cut them!! In case of damage to the cooler, you can reconnect the line to the radiator. Check your lines carefully. The lower line on the transmission is the pressure line. The upper line is the return line. On my Jimmy, the pressure line is connected at the bottom of the radiator! I removed the upper line. Connected the radiator out (upper linet) to the external cooler. Routed the cooler return line to the transmission return line.
Does your cooler have connections similiar to factory connections? From 96-01, the factory used an adaptor. I broke both adaptors that came with the cooler. I ordered a replacement from the parts store. The part is exactly the same part GM used. Easier to install too! |

Re: Tranny cooler
I'm trying to add an external tranny cooler to my 01 Blazer 4x4, and I aborted when I saw the retainer clips on the tranny lines at the radiator. How will I connect my new cooler to that? Is that the adapter you refer to? Where do I get em?
