My truck needed a new transmission, when I drove long distances. It also had a problem while towing a trailer.

After the new transmission, is was golden. Not a problem with it, since.

The fluid expands and gets thinner when hot. Remember tranny fluid is supposed to be checked when hot and on a level surface. Check the level after you have driven it for 30 minutes or more. If you topped it off before the trip you may have over filled it.

If I was towing that much weight on a regular basis I would invest in a aux tranny cooler. The key to long transmission life is keeping it cool.
