towing and check engine light

on my 95 jimmy i now get the check engine light comming on while i'm at speeds above 60 to 80 k's. the odd thing is i can disconected the negative terminal on the batt and the light goes out and won't come back on but as soon as i hook up a trailer boom its back on again. any one know what might cause this prob? and it only comes on while towing and there is no driveablitly issue at all drives and handles just great since i just finished changing all balljoints a real pain of a job to do. well thxs for the time to read this.

madme,

I don't know who else has had your problem and I never had. I would have the codes pulled to see what they are being thrown for. Then you'll know what to replace or not to do. Good Luck!

Re: towing and check engine light

madme,

If you have an Autozone or Checker Auto Parts store near you they can pull the code for you. Otherwise you'll have to go to the dealer to have them do it or find someone with a Scanalyzer to do it. GOod luck and keep us in the loop.

Re: towing and check engine light

I was towing a motorcycle trailer earlier this year. The combined weight of bike and trailer was 1500lbs and with a 4.3L auto in overdrive it gave me a check engine light. I pulled over and checked things out and then got back on the road and slowed down from 85mph to 70mph. Never had a problem after that.

Re: towing and check engine light

i tried changing the forward o2 censor and now i can to my enclosed double placed snowmbile trailer down the highway at about 70 to 80mph and it will not come on so i think i have fixed the problem
