Tire outside VS. Inside
My truck orgionally came with the tire rack on the back. When I bought it the rack was off and I didn't have a spare at the time. I bought new tires and have a spare now. I was going to put it inside like you should be able to do (there is a place cut out). The tire won't fit even though the tire is the stock size that is suppose to fit. The alternative is to secure it down flat which takes up all my room. Should i just get another tire rack for outside the truck or try and rig something up inside to make it work? If i got a rack any ideas on how much it would cost? thanks

I always thought it looked tough having it on the back. A guy at school has his on top of his Jeep Cherokee. That looks sweet too.

Re: Tire outside VS. Inside
I hated mine on the back, so I moved it to the inside.... I bought a stock mount with the different jack cover plastic and it worked great. Had to drill two small holes but in the factory location. The divits were already marked under the carpet. This was on my 99 blazer by the way. When I sold my blazer I put it back on the outside to trade it in.... Having it on the inside is great..... you never have to worry about the tire swinging on a decline or slanted parking lot. Never have to open tire to access stuff through glass lift. Once I needed to move a couch, so I just undid the tire from the inside mount, set the tire in the front seat, and slid a 3 cushion couch in the inside resting on the tailgate.... Now with the tire on the outside you coudln't do this. ...... |

So do you have a stock inside mount already installed and a stock tire doesn't fit?? |

Re: Tire outside VS. Inside
look at my user name...... the fact he is asking about the mount originally came to be on the outside means he either has a 2 door 2nd gen or a 94 or below 4 or 2door blazer...... I am betting it's a 2door 2nd gen blazer........ Last edited by twodoorblazer : 01-08-2006 at 08:34 PM. |

Re: Tire outside VS. Inside
I don't know why it wouldn't fit inside if it's the stock size. Mine fits.... BARELY but it fits. It is really close, but it is also a hair larger tire size.
Personally, I wish mine was outside, cause I would have more room on the inside. Not very "sporty" looking if that's what you are going for, though. |

Re: Tire outside VS. Inside
If I recall correctly, I remember seeing a few first gen blazers with the tire mounted inside at the junk yard. They all had donuts. Just my observations, i own a 2nd gen.

Re: Tire outside VS. Inside
I have a 87 2 dr blazer and when I bought it, it had a big donut inside I switched to a full size and just put it on the floor in the back. I personally like it better on the outside 1st or 2nd gen. My 95 has it on the outside and my 87 has it in the inside.
