Think I'll have a hard time selling?

Well I might be purchasing a used car from a private seller and I was wondering with the economy the way it is if I'd have a hard time trying to sell my truck.

Here is a little info:
1998 Chevy Blazer 4x4 4 Door (Blue)
108,xxx miles
4.3L V6
Auto
30" Cooper Discoverer STT's
Herculined rocker panels (black)
Dual cat-back flowmaster exhaust
Manik brush guard with Summit offroad lights
Cobra CB radio with antenna

New parts:
new sparkplugs
new fuel pressure regulator
new wires
new distributor
new radiator
new starter
new alternator
new brake pads
new 02 sensors
tranny just flushed and new filter/gasket installed

Outside there are normal chips and dings. The inside is perfectly clean and well taken care of.

I paid $5000 for it when it had 89K on it. I set my asking price ($5700) high because I know I'll get lowballed.

I'd like to get $5500 or it, $5000 at the least. Now is that a fair asking price? Plus do you think I can even find a buyer for it?

Thanks!

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

I wouldn't buy that truck with 108,000 miles for $5000 maybe like 3,800 but maybe someone relly wants that truck and will give you 4 or 5k for it

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

Well with the aftermarket parts/repairs that I put in it I think somewhere around $5k seems reasonable.

Lets see
Tires - $555
Brushguard - around $325
Exhaust - $375
Aux Lights - $75
The new parts alone add up to over $500.

I know I won't get what I've put into it, but I don't wanna get COMPLETLEY boned. Whatcha think, seem fair?

seems quite high when you can get a 2000 2wd in immaculate shape with 53k for the same price.

none of the money you put into it counts when you go to sell it. all the buyer sees is a blazer with 108,xxx miles. Unless its some stupid kid like the one i sold my old 92 to, 206,000 miles 4x4 selonoid needed replacing, passenger window didnt work, overheated 4 times and still got $1,200 for it

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

Yup, cant count the money you put into it. If you payed $5000 and can get $5000, be happy.
Around here, you can get 95-99 blazer/jimmy's like your for $3000 CDN on the road (thats like $2300 USD).
I would ASK $4500 and take anything close to that...$5700 wont even get you any lookers.

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

I just picked up a 1 owner regularly maintained '02 in phenomenal shape for under 4k (from a dealership of all places).

I doubt you'll get what you're asking.

A little depressing, but thanks for the honesty!

I guess I'll just hope and pray and try not to take too big of a hit.

Take some good pics and list it in AutoTrader.com. Write a good story about all the new stuff and the mods. I've had pretty good luck there. And be patient. Don't be surprised if you don't get any calls for 3 weeks. Start high ($4995) and lower your price $500 every couple of weeks. Remember: Good pics and a good story gets the lookers.

Yeah I was planning on plastering it all over every car listing site I could find. Great truck and I hate getting rid of it, but me being 19 and all my fun side is aching for a fun car. Currently on the fence about buying a 93 Firebird Formula .

Only bad part is, I live in south central Pennsylvania, and the winter driving is going to BONE me in the ass. haha.

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

if you realy want
take some easy stuff off like the brushguard and sell them seperately
youll get closer to the amount you want for the extras

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

Mines worth a little under 3k stock and it's a 98 w/ 144k.

Custom parts like you have don't add much value at all, well custom parts in general don't. I'd take them off and sell them seperately like the above guy said as you'll get more money that way. You have to think what the general public wants and most aren't in to customized rides.

The tune-up will help it sell though because the buyer will see that you maintain it. I think the rocker panels will make it less sell-able.

Claybar wax it and spray the frame with semigloss black, it'll really help it sell.

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

Take lots of Pictures all cleaned up and post it on your local CraigsList.
I did that with my other truck and my e-mail was full of requests to see it.
and I sold it to the second guy that looked at it. and it was free.

It's not worth 5k, but not 3k either. 108,000 miles is nothing for a 4.3, my friend has one with over 200k on it and no problems at all. MPG doesn't factor in right now for the general buyer as gas in most places is under $2 ga. Also it's getting winter time so more people are out to buy a 4wd, all in all this is the perfect time for him to sell it.

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

Car buying is emotional, not rational. Think about it: Haven't you ever fallen in love with a car/truck and felt that you could justify a high price for it? And you were afraid that someone else was going to buy it before you could get your money down? Be realistic, we've all been there.

That's why you always should start out with a high price and gradually come down. You just need to connect with that one buyer that will fall in love with this truck and all of the extras. The higher price makes it appealing just like any other purchase.

If something is priced cheap, it gives the impression that something must be wrong with it. A Lexus is just a high priced Corrola with a few extras tacked on, but it commands a premium price in the marketplace because of the impression that it is special.

Just be sure that it is in top shape when someone comes to see it.

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

It's the year too. When I just financed 3800 bucks for my 4rd 2000 it was just barely about the most they would lend because NADA was close at 4200.

No cars but 4 bangers are really selling well right now. So don't take it personally but the entire new and used car market is in the waste can at the moment.

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

if you put it out for 4500 and get offered 4k it would be smart to take it
I have a 97 with 164k on it
i was thinking about selling it and buying a new car in Dec and i know in the wintter is a better market to sell our trucks becouse ppl want four wheel drives
but with my credit bad im not going to sell
but if i where going to a week ago i might have only got 1500 for it in Dec if i decided to cell it i could ask for 3500 and if i got a offer for 3k i would be happy i would have spent just under 1000 in repairs over the last month
that also includes 1 new tire and
my budy who ownes a car dealships got his clean up guy to detial under the hood degress everything give it that used car dealership look
so that is the only reason i would hope to get 3k
but yeah if you clean it up real good dee gress the hood and door gams and clean it up post lots of pics use craigslist and ebay and you can probly get around 4k

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

Like everyone else said, it's not worth 5k, let alone $5,700.

Even 98s around here are only going for about $3,500 or so simply because they are now 11 years old. (cleveland, where we have plenty of snow)

You think your add ons make it worth more? tell ya what, take off the new O2 sensors and take out all the new stuff and see what you get for the truck. LOL. What you did is called maintenance and doen't make the truck worth more, it only doesn't make it worth less. The other thing that may affect you is the emissions testing some states do. you would be surprised how some people are willing to drive for a vehicle.

For a comparison, I just negotiated a deal on a 1999 Bravada last night. Full leather interior with all the goodies except moon roof. In the last year and a half the lady put in a new torque converter, front/rear brake pads, rotors front and rear, upper and lower ball joints, both front hubs/bearing assemblies, oil cooler lines, rad flush and fill, 4 tires, fuel pump and filter, and serpentine belt. She has reciepts for all repairs. Price we worked out is $3,800. I must say, I didn't even want to pay that much because it was 99, but at least I know I won't be replacing (or at least i shouldn't be) any of that stuff for a few more years. (and my wife really liked it)

Re: Think I'll have a hard time selling?

Id really consider your sale, I lived in Pa for a year and my Camaro wouldnt MOVE in the snow, F-bodies and snow dont mix. Plus 93 isnt that great of a year, they had their probs with the first year of a whole new car pretty much, I've seen 6 speed 93 Trans-Ams going for 3 grand
