Strange Road Noise......

There is some odd road noise happening to my Blazer.

When driving straight, it's there all the time......if am turning right - it get's louder........if I'm turning left it goes away entirely.

At first I thought it was worn tires......I had Yokohama Geolander AT+2's on until recently. They vibrated and shook the truck badly.
I bought some new BF All Terrains day before yesterday to get rid of the problem.
It's still there though......not a bad as before but still present all the same.

As long as I am turning left the road noise goes away.

I've asked around and the general concensus seems to be the bearings.......what do you think?

If that is so - what am I looking at for a fix? Are the bearings and the hub one unit?

I'm only - so so - mechanically..........and I've certinally never done something like that before.......is this something a backyard mechanic can do without an incredible amount of difficulty?

Thanks for your replies.....

No.......it pretty much stays the same.....

Hub bearings eh?
Something I could do myself with no previous knowledge? Or something best left up to pros?

How much are the parts?

Picked up a used hub assembly out of a 02' Jimmy for $100 (canadian) and put it in.

No more noise.

For another 30-40 bux you could have gotten a new one. I'm glad your noise is gone, but using used bearings means that the one you got is not going to have a warranty and it's going to wear quick... JMO

Re: Strange Road Noise......

No, GM wanted $489 for a new hub bearing. Six months warrenty on parts, one year on work (at $110 a hour!)

Local car parts wholesalers wanted $299 and that is with my 30% government employee discount. Six months on parts.

So a used one was well worth it.
The 02 Jimmy I pulled it out of had 41000 km on it.

Re: Strange Road Noise......

Just replaced both hubs on my Jimmy over the weekend. I really wasn't having any major noise issues and the old ones didn't really look that bad but I feel better knowing they're new!

I bought mine off Ebay from a guy that bought them for his 4x4 S-10 and then sold the truck. I only paid $103 each for them.
They were brand new in the Box GM parts.
