Re: Stock HID headlights

no one is for reflective housings and the other is for projection...im sure you have D2R bulbs...most dealers get 100 bucks per bulb....are you sure its the bulb and not the ballest?

oh and dont mess with the plugs or anything connected to them when they are on...the high voltage they put out will knock you on your ass...i know i have been there before...

Re: Stock HID headlights

Would this work

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7956781305&fromMakeTra ck=true

How would i check if its the bulb or ballast? The other morning driving to work, it flickered a few times and then went out completely.

Re: Stock HID headlights

Envoy's have a D2S bulb. You will have to go to GM and buy the bulb it has a special plug. You may have to buy 2 on account GM changed their bulb color after 2000 so your bulbs color and look wont match.

yes thats what you need...

what i would do is swap the bulbs...if it starts to work on the other side and not the other side...you know its the bulbs...if not check power to the ballast

Do not use a D2R
to check bulb pull the headlight you will see if the bulb is bad.

Re: Stock HID headlights

The Philips number on the outside on mine is 16526104, i took the 2 screws off the big silver box which i am guessing is the ballast, i couldn't figure out how to get the bulb itself out, there were another 2 screws in there, do i need to loosen those or does the bulb pop right out.

very very hard to find a GM HID bulb on Ebay. GM's bulbs have a special bracket and plug harness that plug into the GM ballast

its not the base its the shield around the glass, the envoy headlights have a built in sheild so they use a D2S(no metal sheild around the bulbs light output. D2R have a sheild for headlights that dont come with built in sheilds

Re: Stock HID headlights

Would these work, 150 a side from gmpartsdirect is a little outrageous

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33710&item=7957845 106&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Also what temp is stock gm bulbs in case i only get one.

On a side note, anyway to turn off the day time running lights so these bulbs last a little longer.

sorry , you have to buy GM on account of the plug. But can you pull or twist the bulb out of the silver box where its mounted? un bolt it and take a pic.

DRL can be disabled by pulling the fuse in the under the hood fuse box.

GMs are 4200-4300K

Re: Stock HID headlights

i tried twisting it earlier but wasn't sure if that was it, if its not snowing too badly tomorrow i will get it out and take a pic.

Thank you for the info for the DRL, i see no reason to have them turned on during the day

Thank you both for all your help, whatever happened to the days when a headlight was 5 bucks and took 5 minutes to change.

I called the dealorship here and they tried to sell me the 14.95 bulb and tried to tell me that GM never used HIDs
