squeaky tailgate / rear glass
There is a squeaking noise comming from either my tailgate or rear glass. Any ideas what I can do to isolate and fix the squeak? It happens when I go over bumps.

Re: squeaky tailgate / rear glass
my 96 glass squeaked bad. i wd40'd the hinges up top, and that stoped some. i also used some sonofagun on the weatherstripping which helps. do you have 2/4 door? is spare tire external? if so it could also be that. mine is very noisy.

yea mine squeeks too. I have a 4 door. I think its the rubber weather stripping rubbing on the glass though. I might oil that up and see if that works.

Re: squeaky tailgate / rear glass
i have the 4-door, and the spare is under the truck, so it's not that. I think it's the glass. I thought about getting additional weatherstripping, and then applying that to the glass portion (the factory weather strip is on the gate) and seeing if that will apply more pressure and reduce the squeak. I'll try the hinges too.

Re: squeaky tailgate / rear glass
try some armor all or son of a gun on the weather stripping. my wifes 4 dr blazer needs it done every wash, which ends up like twice a week.

Re: squeaky tailgate / rear glass
a quick and easy fix is to use athletic tape on the striker where the glass and the tailgate meet. just wrap the tape around the striker.

Re: squeaky tailgate / rear glass
It's the latch. Just spray some WD-40 around it. That stop the squeek for about a month or two, then just spray it again.

Re: squeaky tailgate / rear glass
I had this same problem, and I have tried the above except I used spray silicon spray. The actual fix is to get lub that is similar to the stuff that you use for poly bushing (Its sticky like honey), then belive it or not apply it to the area where the glass latches there is a rubber bushing there and a flat steel plate lub both. The item that I belive causes the squeak is the flat steel plate because this was the last item that i greased and that squeak has been gone ever since. Hope this helps because that squeak drove me nuts

Re: squeaky tailgate / rear glass
I used some axle grease on my latch. Rubbed it on the hook attached to the glass and open and closed it a few times to get it on both ends. Fixed the glass squeaking. Now if I could just fix the rest of the damn plastic interior. I've only done one door so far.

Re: squeaky tailgate / rear glass
I'm STILL having this problem in the Jimmy, thanks to the thread starter. Seems it is my back window squeaking. I had thought maybe the windshield wiper in rear was rubbing

Re: squeaky tailgate / rear glass
The latch rattling could be the most annoying noise ever, especially if you have any sort of system vibrating it even more like me. I gave up on lubricating it, too much of a pain. Instead I took some dynamat, cut it into small strips and wrapped the striker. I secured the dynamat by wrapping it all in electrical tape. It's not 100% gone but it is MUCH less audible.
