Squeakum, squeakum, squeak, squeak....

Hey all. Got a '95 Jimmy 2-dr. The rear glass/door has a squeak that has started up. I think it's being caused by rubbing of the gasket on the lift gate against the rear glass. I guess the weight of the tire/tire carrier is adding to this.

I thought about putting grease on the gasket, but was worried that the petroleum portion of it may break down the foam-like gasket material. Has anyone had this problem or have any ideas? Maybe a safe lubricant that I could use on the gasket?

A quick fix would be wrapping some electrical tape around the bar on the gate where the glass connects. It will tighten the connection between the glass and the gate so the squeak should stop.

Re: Squeakum, squeakum, squeak, squeak....

this is a problem that I had and surely don't miss one bit (blazer is sold)...... The tape wears out but works as it snugs things up a bit...... I used a small pice of clear rubber hose just was just the right diameter and slit it down the side, and used some epoxy and glued it on (used tape to secure it before it dried, then took take off). The stiff rubber works better than tape and doesn't need redone all the time

I have a 2000 Jimmy myself and I have the same issue. I use silicone spray and it went away. It's been a week now with no Squeak squeaks
