smarttrak awd problems
I have a 98 Bravada, well its my dads and the smart trak awd no longer works. My car doesnt have an awd system like this so i am kind of lost as where to start. The front wheels no longer engage, but the rear lockers are still working. Where should i start looking first, i thought maybe the actuator or transfer case. The abs has started to act up and the light is coming on sometimes, i doubt its related although i thought i would mention it anyway just incase. Any advise to steer me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. If this problem is addressed already in a thread somewhere if you could direct me toward it because i did not see it in any of my searches. Thanks

Re: smarttrak awd problems
When my 4x4 in the envoy stopped working, it was an airhose dryrotted, not enabling the transfercase to switch...
no clue on the smart-trak AWD... |

Re: smarttrak awd problems
The SmartTrak system operation is fully in the TCase. Unlike other 4wd S10 models, the front axle has no disconnect, so there is no vacuum line to break. Front axle is on all the time.
If you don't have Awd, its either the transfer case (the shift motor isn't operational) or the controls that tell the shift motor to turn on and engage 4wd aren't operational. Sorry I can't be of any more help. 'JustDreamin' |

Re: smarttrak awd problems
Ok, so the service AWD light has now come on. I pulled the wire off the shift motor and oil came out. Im guessing this means the seal on the motor is shot, and the motor needs replaced. I wiped the oil off and pluged it back in and the light went off but still no AWD. Any idea if i need a new motor, or if i can voltage test the plug?
