should i get this zr2
hey guys, i'm a noob here and i found a 1998 black ZR2 with all the goodies even a sunroof, and a brushguard and they want $6,000 for it. The only downfall is that it has 165,000 miles on it and i was wondering if this would be too much to get it for $5500. Also how good do the 4.3 motors hold up. thanks

Re: should i get this zr2
That is not a bad price. The motor should be fairly reliable, but at that many miles, it would be everything else i would watch out for: ball joints, tie rods, pitman arm, brakes, tranny. Just be prepared to put a little money into it.

Re: should i get this zr2
yea, i figured if the motor blows i'll drop a used 350 in it and if they tranny goes i might do a 5 speed conversion on it. how much would it cost to put new ball joints, tie rods, and pitman arm. and could some or all of the be done by me.

Re: should i get this zr2
well i e-mailed the guy about it today and he said this.
The 4 wheel drive works just fine. It had a new transmission put in last June. The AC compressor was replaced last spring along with the water pump. Last Jan it had all new ball joints, pitman arm shocks all the way around. New tires in Dec of '03. I put an alternator on it at around 80K |

Well, if all that was replaced, it should be good to go.
