Service engine light

2001 Jimmy 4dr 4.3 auto 24000mi Out of warranty About a year and a half ago I had my egr replaced (under warranty) My service engine light had come on and that fixed the problem. About 4 months ago it came on again. I was running a KN fipk and had been since I bought the truck new. I put the stock air filter unit back on and the light went out. I ran this way for about two weeks and no light. I put the KN back on and still no light. I put about 2000miles on and had no problem. About two weeks ago the light came back on. I did the change-over again and this time the light stayed on and has ever since. (have been unemployed so it isn't driven very much) I have gone back and forth with the stock/KN and no change. I'm sure there are a million things it could be but does anyone have any suggestions? I hate to take it to the dealer without at least checking out some things. Also, is it possible to reset the light without setting it up on a computer? (My '95 vette codes can be reset thru the ignition with a series of start/run/off/start/etc) Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Service engine light

Take it to autozone and have them read the code for you. They do not charge for reading codes.

Hey man!! Check first your gaz cap!! Looks weird at first but, 90% of the time the cap have a faliure or is not as tight til you hear the "clic". Or just try to put some high octane gaz in it!! Most of the time those tricks solve the probleme....sorry for my spelling..I`m french!
