Removing trailer hitch?

I did a little searching, didn't find much on the how-to of removing the trailer hitch assembly from my 02. I was just wondering if anyone who did this could chime in with some help on how they went about it.
I kinda assumed it bolted to the ends of the frame, but it looks like it's connected to the rear bumper assembly as well? If that's the case do I have to remove the rear side trim pieces to get to the rear bumper to get to the hitch?
Thanks in advance for any help.

(ps: wasn't sure if this shoulda been in the body/exterior section, sorry if it's in the wrong spot)

3 bolts/nuts on each side of the frame rails, not attached to the bumper or anything like that, be sure to get the square washers off the frame incase they stick to it, that way you'll have them if you ever want to put it back on again. It's worth about $30-$50 w/o shipping on Ebay.

Re: Removing trailer hitch?

actually the trailer hitch is all made into the bumper assembly. i know i had mine all off. to change it i think some 4 doors didnt have the trailer hitch bracket. but the plastic top pad pulls up and off and theres 2 18mm on each side and 2 on each bottom side. then 3 on each frame rail. go to a pick and pull and look for a 98+ blazer w/o the hitch to get brackets

looking for pics to show. will edit when found
factory w/ hitch all made into 1

w/o hitch

Re: Removing trailer hitch?

That's the same hitch I took off mine. It just bolted to the sides of the frame rail. I didn't need to take those brackets off and mine was originally on a 2dr.

You don't need to take the side pieces off like in this pic:

This is all that needs to come off:

Re: Removing trailer hitch?

Cool guys, thanks for all the help. That info about the plastic pad coming off is good to know, I thought that may be the case, but I didn't wanna just go yankin' away at the thing and bust it off. Thanks again, fellas.

Re: Removing trailer hitch?

My class III hitch required loosing the roll pan bumper. Two bolts are directly bolted to the frame. The others bolts are bolted down with the bumper.

Re: Removing trailer hitch?

I'm going to take pics of mine as soon as I get the chance, I didn't have to do anything with my brackets.
