Re: Removing roof rack holes
ugh...you removed the roof rack :-\ id say tape behind and bondo? i never took my rack off to know what the holes look like...if they are small i dont think welding would be necessary...how are you painting over? and wont you still have the strips down the center of your roof? or are you removing them as well?

Re: Removing roof rack holes
there are little nubs that stick up where it screws down
take your headliner off and take a look from that side |

Re: Removing roof rack holes
never bondo over holes! weld them up....dont know if you can pop those out but either grind them down or drill them out, then weld

Re: Removing roof rack holes
I've heard of the uber cheap way.... rubber caps to plug the hole.
Using a flush top screw with teflon tape to seal it, and just leaving it flush with the roof. Seen billet caps that screw into place and leave a nice "finished", but not "shaved" look. Just a nice trim peice I guess. Heard of the flush screws with teflon, then bondo the SMALL amount of a hole left. There are some options. Just know the correct way is to grind or somehow lower the raise, then weld and paint. Although, not reversible like the other options. |

Re: Removing roof rack holes
Welded mine shut with the headliner out just had a friend cut out some little circles from 16 gauge . Weld slow and make sur not to get it to hot . The roof would probably look really stupid without its ribs . I think its for support of the roof . However I eventually would like to have a rag top and thats the only way I would remove those ribs.

Re: Removing roof rack holes
when u undo the bolts theres little nipple things sticking up like 1/16" maybe, all u need to do is fill the holes iin with a welder and then grind it down and smooth it out, no biggie.

Re: Removing roof rack holes
when i took mine out i cut away some of the rubber sealent used to hold it in place then put the screws back in so i could pull out the ring part that the screws go into and now your able to weld over the holes |

Re: Removing roof rack holes
if the roof rack isnt there, you really dont need those ribs up there either. there are support beams inside under the headliner and if you were to sawzall your whole roof and put a ragtop in, then you would be depending on the frame of the ragtop. i wanna do mine eventually too but its the least of my problems rite now

Re: Removing roof rack holes
i was wanting to get one of my buddies to weld them and grind it down, but I'm afraid of the headliner catching fire. Too lazy to remove it, i guess... lol
