removing mud shield?
on the 4wd Jimmy there is a plastic shield on the bottom/front with an access port for the oil filter. The wife will be the one driving this most of the time and aside for a snowstorm I don't ever see this being used off road. Just seems to be a total PIA to try and work on this thing with that shield in place. Is this shield really necessary and is there any reason to keep it on there?

Re: removing mud shield?
what do you have to work on so often that its in the way? if you do have to take it off, its only 6 bolts, takes 2 minutes to take it off.

Re: removing mud shield?
I'm going to need to do front end steering work, do oil changes, and replace the oil lines in the near future. Obviously I will not be doing all that in one day. Oh, and it's a complete PIA to change the belt with it in place. If I don't need it, it makes no sense to keep it there. (is it keeping the CV shafts from rusting or something?)

Re: removing mud shield?
it probably wouldnt affect much, maybe the engine temp would rise a little from less cooling, but its only 6 bolts. if you can do susp and steering work and replace the oil cooler lines you can put 6 bolts back in.
