Remote oil filter lines leaking
What is the best solution for this problem? I have a 2000 jimmy 4x4. Do these have oil coolers? I didnt see any hoses going to the radiator.

Re: Remote oil filter lines leaking
My 2000 S-10 (non-4x4) has an oil cooler. My 1989 Blazer 4x4 does not have an oil cooler but it does have a remote oil filter and when I bought the truck the lines to the remote oil filter were leaking. I bought some new dorman oil filter lines and replaced the leaking ones. It wasn't too difficult to change out. I had to use a bunch of long extentions on a ratchet to reach the bolt alongside the engine block and I had to unbolt the driver's side motor mount and jack the motor up a bit to pull the old lines out and snake the new ones in.

Re: Remote oil filter lines leaking
On the 4x4 vehicle the lines run from the block to the remote filter location, then they go into the oil cooler location on the radiator. So basically you have two sets of lines instead of one set in the 2wd vehicles. (on 2wd they go from block to radiator as the filter is on the block)

Re: Remote oil filter lines leaking
The oil cooler is part of the radiator. If you look down from above with the hood open, you'll see the top hose and then you'll probably see two metal lines going into the radiator, one towards the top and one down at the bottom. The transmission lines are on the passenger side IIRC.

Re: Remote oil filter lines leaking
should have the cooler. the lines go from the block to the filter relocator then from the relocator to the cooler i believe. if you look at the relocator deally thing there will be more than just the 2 lines in it.

Re: Remote oil filter lines leaking
The oil cooler lines are located on the driverside. The radiator has two connections.

Re: Remote oil filter lines leaking
I'll be dammed...the old jimmy does have and oil cooler in the radiator! I thought for sure I didnt see one. Yeah those are the lines that look like they are leaking. I can't really tell if the relocator lines are all that leaky. Its a little hard to see them from the top of the engine compartment. Who makes good replacement hoses for these? My buddy bought them from the same dealer twice and they both started leaking within a year. I want to do this once. Any suggestions?

Re: Remote oil filter lines leaking
I can't remember which forum, but it may be the 4.3 one that has the tutorial and how to.
From what I have read, even new lines will leak within a short amount of time because the hoses are merely crimped onto the lines. Someone posted a way to remove the factory crimp fittings and replace just the hose, and IMHO doing it that way may not only last longer, but if it starts leaking in the future, replacement of just the hose will take minutes and cost a few bucks. |

Re: Remote oil filter lines leaking
The crimps start leaking because they use cheap aluminum as the crimping material. Over several pressure spikes and heating/cooling events they loosen up. The worm gear is not made out of cheap aluminum and holds a lot better. |
