Reclining seat handle replacement

Has anyone replaced a broken reclining handle lever on their seats? The driver side seat has a broken handle. I can buy the handle for $10 but it is glued? Screwed?

It has a clip that holds it on. The handle itself has grooves in it and it slides right over the grooved metal nob. Usually, it's the grooves on the metal nob that break. Supposedly, there's a fix-it kit at autozone for this.

$25 bucks at Autozone. I'd say you could ask where it is, but most A-zone employees are basically special bus material. But it should be near the HELP! section.

Re: Reclining seat handle replacement

i just got my kit off ebay that had both the driver side and passenger side handles included in it. both of my handles broke as do most people so you are better off just getting that

That looks like it's just the normal handle witrh a screw through it. Seems like you can basically reuse the same handle, just put a screw through it.

Last time I bought athe handle, which was about over a year ago, it was only $2.70 from the dealer.

Thanks for the information fellas. A forum member from www.chevytalk.org provided this link http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/...3924&members=1

I'll probably go with this option. I have just about all the tools anyway.

My seat handle just broke as well. Have you tried doing this yet? I'm not sure I understand how this is going to work. About half of the stub on mine broke off and broke in half. It looks like the set screws are supposed to go in the groves on what's left of the stub, but it that really going to work with half the stub broken off?

Re: Reclining seat handle replacement

the seat handles with the screws have a longer shaft on them supposedly so if you broke off your metal shaft, then you can slip the handle on the nub left over and tighten it down. I drilled out my old handle, fitted a piece of aluminum tubing in there, glued it on, then drilled through the nub and put in a pin. Has worked well for 2 years now

So basically you did the same thing that link showed to do except used a pin instead of the set screws?

Re: Reclining seat handle replacement

yeah basically. that was before I knew about this being a common problem and there were ways to fix it. I went about a month with vice grips stuck to the nub though...

Re: Reclining seat handle replacement

Well I ended up buying the piece from Autozone for $7 on my lunch break. It slides on and seems to work, I just don't have a phillips to put the screw in yet. Hopefully the screw provided will fit nicely and this will be the end of my broken handle.

Re: Reclining seat handle replacement

cheap piece of crap. mine snapped too. I can't believe someone is making money selling a "fix". you would think after 70 years of manufacturing that engineers would have perfected the "handle". freaking garbage.
