Rear Wiper Issues
Ok I have searched and all I can find are old ass posts from people who's rear wipers don't work... Well I don't have that problem...
The rear wiper on my wife's 98 Bravada likes to turn on completely at random. Sometimes it will go off when I am driving or if I am just parked and pushing other switches and I just noticed today that it will even do it when the truck is off and nobody is around it. But it also still works with the dash switch like normal. I have no idea where to start with this issue. I would like to keep it but I am seriously thinking about just removing it all together. My wife keeps saying its just her trucks tail, and it's wagging it because it's happy. right... But any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
just unplug it untill you can get it shaved.. there completly pointless anyways.. but the problem could be in the switch although i dont know how it would turn on when the truck is off since there isnt any power going to it when the key is in the off position

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
Oh and I have aonther dash switch that I am going to try installing to see if that makes a diffrence, but I honestly doubt that it will. It seriously seems like something weird is goign on with it... Maybe the relay is shorting out or something. |

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
I unplugged mine from the switch and from the fuse box. All they do is smooth the back glass out in that area so when dust or rain gets back there it just surrounds the outer area of the smooth glass, you don't need it.

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
Just sayin... I'm looking for help on fixing it not advice on unplugging it.
Like I have said a few times now. I would really like to get it to work properly because it has come in handy on ocasion. If I just didn't need it at all, I would have unplugged it when it first started giving me issues. |

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
Try waxing the back window. I do that on my front and back ones, makes the water run right off it and the dust not accumulate as quickly

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
Thank you, that is a good idea if I can not get it fixed. As of right now it still works it's just weird to walk up to the truck with the rear wiper going for no apparent reason... Maybe it is happy to see me... I don't know.

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
I see alot of blazers and such having that problem with the rear wiper, and just seen them with no wiper, they kind of look like a junk wiper to me.

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
I don't get how it is running with the truck off. The power should be cut once it is turned off. I have issues with mine randomly sticking in the middle of a wipe cycle straight up and down. I haven't had a chance to pull the panel on the inside and see if it's corroded or anything.
For those that think it's useless, apparently don't drive in much heavy rain or in winter. I use mine a lot. |

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
i just dont look out the back window much... i use the side mirrors more then the middle... but i would deifinly pull the back panel and check it out back there... i think there is always power running to it but the switch is on the ground side... so if the ground wire is chaffed and it makes contact then thats where the waggig tail comes in... does it do it if you open and close the hatch? i would think you would be better off going to the junkyard and pulling a motor asembly this was if its not the prolem your not out that much money... 10 buks at most... electrical problems are a pain to trouble shoot over the internet.. the only thing you can do is tear it apart and se whats what for yourself

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
oh yeah another good way to fix this would be to do what I said above and also take the back glass completely out, this way you'd always have a clear view of whats behind you.

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
if it turns on all by itself it has to be the switch.

Re: Rear Wiper Issues
nah gm uses this design as well... most of the switched options are switched grounds as you put it... it is safer to have a ground wire through the switch then it is a powered wire.. less chance of it going bad and starting a fire...
