Rear hatch unlocks but doesn't pop.
I just bought this S10 ZR2, so I'm not familiar with it yet. On my Gen-I, when I hit the hatch release, the hatch pops open a smidge and I can lift it. On my Gen II, it doesn't pop. When I get around to the back after using the button, the hatch is locked. I can hear it pop when I hit the button.
There's a closed sticky where a guy asks the same question as I need answered, but he didn't get an answer. I'm guessing this is not a normal behavior. What I'd like to know is whether I should be picking up a new activation mechanism while the going is still "good" for unlatching it. Secondarily, while I'm on this topic, someone has replaced the key activation with a button activation which I view as a bit of a security risk. I bought a key-activated one at the wrecker so does anyone know who to call to get it re-keyed and about how much that would cost? If this was answered in another thread, please redirect me. I ran a search on spring liftgate hatch mechanism and a bunch of other stuff and couldn't find anything pertinent except for the aforementioned question in the sticky. Thanks |

Re: Rear hatch unlocks but doesn't pop.
you should just pm me your questions..you can adjust the tension on the latch..its 2 10mm bolts
mine did the same thing...you pop it and you hear the motor but when you get back there its locked...you can adjust it or there is a small pusher (pin switch) that might be missing or broken Last edited by orangesonoma : 02-15-2009 at 06:48 PM. |

Also, IIRC, key-pop is on the split gates (pre-98) and push-pop is liftgate (98+) so it may not work how you want it....

OrangeSonoma knows all. If I PM'd you all these Q's, I wouldn't be able to come back in two years time and see what the heck it was that I was supposed to do to fix XYZZY.
Is there a "how to" for adjusting the tension? It's not in my Haynes and my search of the site turned up nada. |

Re: Rear hatch unlocks but doesn't pop.
well i know when mine did that it was to tight...so you have to remove the rear cover and there are two 10mm bolts that hols the latch in..a pivot and the adjuster....bring the latch closer to the back of the truck just a bit and see if it gets better...also check to see if that pin switch still has spring to it..
i have pics of what it should look like if you want |

Re: Rear hatch unlocks but doesn't pop.
Pics would be fabulous. Yes, please! I'm heading up to the local pick-n-pull for a sender for an '89 S10 tomorrow as well as a '99 sunroof and a remote oil filter block and .... you get the picture. I think they're starting to recognize me there.
Right now, when the glass lands in lands _really_ heavily. I just replaced the lift supports too. |
