Rear Hatch Release/Lock Failure: How to open glass 98+
Alright, so I searched on here to find a way to open my rear glass because my rear plastic panel was on and my button didn't work. Since my rear gate is fully shaved I had to way to get it to open. I have read on a couple of forums to either break the plastic panel and replace it or pry it back and stick your finger in to push the lever. Well the latter of those sounds good except one problem. On the 98+ Blazers there is a screw that holds the top of the plastic in and you cannot access it unless the glass is open DOH! Well here is how you go about getting the window open without a trip to the salvage yard or dealership to buy a new panel.
First you will look at the rear panel from inside the truck and go to the top of the carpet in the dead center of the panel: ![]() Pry back a little spot of the carpet and you will see a punch out in the plastic: ![]() Now stick a screw driver or whatever you have handy that is long and strong enough not to bend under a little pressure all the way into the whole. Note you will have to poke through the insulation on the back side of the panel and you will feel a little latch: ![]() Now just slide the screw driver to your left (passanger side) and presto! the rear glass will pop open. Now you can remove that pesky screw: ![]() and then remove the panel and replace the actuator or whatever is the cause of your button not working. |
