Re: rear end
You shouldn't be going through rear ends like that unless you're making some pretty stout horsepower.
If you have an 8.5" rear and you're going through them like that with an engine short of 400hp, you may have something else wrong. Even the 7.5" is a pretty reliable little rear. Is your truck heavily modified? Are you extremely abusive on it? Who did the installation? |

Re: rear end
i wouldnt say extreamly abusive but iv put it threw the paces doin dounuts in the snow and stuff like that it has been in a wreck and the frame was bent some i think that might have somethin to do with it and i had the first rear end installed by a local shop

Re: rear end
oh man that sucks
expensive lesson iv found out i have 3:42 gears with the open limited slip i guess its called and most everyone has been telling me its probably an 8.5" rear what would happen if i changed the gear ratio i know its got something to do with gas mileage vs acceleration but i don't know which is which |

Re: rear end
can't change the gears i think... will mess with the 4x4 if front and rear differential gear ratios are different... mine was 3.73 with a limited slip...
GM uses a coo-coo clock limited slip... it winds up after slipping, then it engages... that's how mine went, nothing, nothing, then BANG, limited slip locked up and i snapped a 10,000lb tow strap... tranny is sluggish in 1st and the shift from 1st to 2nd isn't like it use to be... i doubt it's an 8.5"... mine is 7 and 5/8... stick a tape measure in there, you should be able to figure which one you have as for gear ratios the lower the gear ratio the better the gas milage and better top speed, the higher the gear ratio, the better the acceleration |

Re: rear end
Did you replace the complete rear or just the differential?
If you've just been eating diffs, your entire rear could be shot from the accident that caused the frame damage. Goran, that's ****ing horrible. Here I thought the blown up rear that came with my truck when I bought it was bad missing a few teeth. ![]() |

Re: rear end
The 8.5s look more rounded than the 7.5/7.65. I saw pics somewhere...I gotta dig em up.
