Re-installing headlamp assy

Hi everyone, Ok, so I installed my clear turn signal lenses on my 2000 Blazer. Popped right in! Now when I went to re-install the headlamp assembly, i ended up spending 3+hours!! the darn thing will not install straight. what happens is that when i put back the retainer fork thing to hold it in place, the assy unit jacks up about 1/4" soits all crooked. when i line it up the way it should be installed, the retainer clip wont lock into place because there is not enough room to slide it in. (retainer tab is not in far enough) anyone have this issue?

I see 2 tabs toward the rear of the unit. are these tabs supposed to go inside those 2 gullies on the frame?

thaks in advance for the help! im going to play again tomorrow.
