Re: quick AC question?

Rlith to nit pick, but if you changed the refrigerant, I consider that servicing. Of course, if it was still working before the switch, I might not, but, then why would you change it. By the way how long have you had it in? I've owned r12 systemed cars, that went over 200k and 15 years, without sevice and they were noted for leaking. The longest I've had any r134 system was 180K and 10 years, it still works, but it's getting weak. Might have to gauge it up soon and check it. Somebody I know just got rid of a Buick, that lasted 250K before the A/C bit the dust and it was a hose that rubbed through and leaked. It was an 86 or 87 but I'm not sure of the refrigerant. I'm assuming, it would have still had r12. That might be the reason, they didn't fix it.

Re: quick AC question?

Rlith, how well does the HOT SHOT work for you, I was thinking of putting it in my "89 Blazer and "82 Buick Regal. BTW the Blazer and the Regal have been converted to 134a, the coldest the Blazer will get is 50deg and the Regal will get down to 40deg as long as the car is moving.
Both have new compressors, dryers, oriface tube, Pag oil, flushed and vacuum down. Gauge set reads the same for both at 35psi on low side and 195psi on high side at idle.

Re: quick AC question?

I have a 96 Blazer with 125k. The A/C does not work, and I'm not sure if it ever will. I don't even know what's wrong with it, we've recharged it 3 or 4 times, but it doesnt last long. I think it's either the condenser or just one big leak.

Re: quick AC question?

a very common problem on blazers is the compressor going out i have a used car lot and have had about 10 blazers and about 7 of those i have had to switch out the compressor average miles are from 70,000 to 90,000 miles. Good thing i know a guy that can rebuilt them for $98 bucks at autozone its $199.99 bucks exchange and to get warrenty you have to buy the dryer and have it serviced at a qualified repair facility.

autozone does sell sealers that just might plug up the leak if its not that big but if you think there is a big leak all you have to do is buy a can of leak detector you put it in your system and run it for a while and if there is a leak you will get a bright green goop coming out telling you where the leak is. But before putting it in i would suggest going to your local car wash and giving the engine a quick degreasing that way you know exactly where its leaking

Works very well..do a search for the thread... "Hot Shot Mod" the entire history is there...

poconoiejoe, switch was fine, just noted it wasn't getting as cold as I thought it should with r134..., one of our clients is an HVAC specialist and dumped the system and put hot shot in it's place...

Re: quick AC question?

95 jimmy, working ac, 136,000 miles. As long as i have owned it (2 years) no maintenance done to ac. But I don't push my luck as I only flip it on when it hits the 90's.

Re: quick AC question?

I sold my 94 last summer with 175K miles, the only serivce i did to the AC was add some WD-40 to the clutch when it started to squeak and it worked when I sold it.
