question-auto 4x4

Hi all- I have a 2000 Blazer with auto 4x4 option. today i did a stupid thing. I didnt realize the auto 4x4 button was engaged and i drove 30miles on dry highway around 60mph.

now when i drive on 2H, I can hear a low humming sound coming from the right front wheel. i mostly hear it at about 30mph. it is still there even if i pop it into the tranny into neutral. it sounds like its rubbing on something.

did i just eff up the drivetrain or is this a coincidence? Thanks for your input on this!

Re: question-auto 4x4

could be the hub bearing. Could be cause of being in 4wd but it could be just time to replace it.

Re: question-auto 4x4

i'd say wheel bearing...

they are notorius for bearings...

i've driven mine in 4x4 auto for long distances also... no problems...

again, i'd say wheel bearing...

Napa has them with lifetime warranties for $180 approx

Re: question-auto 4x4

just so you know, it not just the bearings, its the entire hub that is replaced for that price. Gm decided to do us a favor and not allow the bearings to be repacked. [/sarcasm]

Re: question-auto 4x4

UPDATE:

For those of you who stated "bearing" you were right. Got the truck back from shop today and they replaced the right front bearing. I had them install the bearing i bought from Synergy Offroad as recommended by this site. (84.95ea.!) great price compared to the normal price of a blazer bearing.

anyway there is no more front end noise and for future reference the noise was a low rubbing sound mostly heard between 30-50mph and even louder upon decel.

Thanks for everyones help!

Re: question-auto 4x4

you can drive with auto 4x4 on, with no problems. it just engages the front axle, but power isn't sent there until the sensors think you need it (with 4hi, your front axle is engaged & power is always sent to it - so don't keep that on all the time).

it's still a good idea to stay in 2hi during most driving, though - auto 4x4 is worse on gas mileage.
