Putting the fuel tank back in Q's

Ok so I replaced my pump and got a good seal around the top but now I can't seem to get my fuel tank to sit back in so the belly straps will connect. I know I had to bend them to get the tank out but now it is short by 3 inches or so. I have the right one for the front and rear so there is no confusion there, I just can't seem to get it. I can get the 2 hoses on the rear to go in, that's a mother in itself, but once they are up I can't figure out the rest. Any thoughts? A friend told me to us a 2X4 under the tank and jack it so it's level. Not tried it yet, decided to research it before I do something dumb.
