Power window help
Have a 99 Bravada that my wife drives and the window motor has apparently failed. I know I have power going to it for up and down movement but it stopped working last Thursday and is now half open. I found a new assembly is $100 at the parts store but my manual instructions say I need to basically take all the molding out and the window out, in addition to the door panel on the inside. Is that really necessary, or can the job be done without removing the glass and all the window channel?
Is this a very time consuming job? Easier with a friend, or are 4 hands in the way? Thanks, Mike |

Re: Power window help
i have a 2nd gen jimmy 2dr and i can tell you the motor isnt hard to get to at all. you said you found an assembly so idk if your going to replace everything or what, but the motor isnt hard at all (at least on mine)
with mine, the problem is with my express down feature. ill let it go down, but once it hits bottom, it tries to keep going. it seems like my motor has way too much torque because its ripping the bolts out of the door frame making it shake vigorously once it hits bottom. i have to tap the button up when it gets there. ive taken it apart to tighten up the bolts several times, but now itll losen in a day so its not worth it. if its your motor thats bad, you dont need to take out the window, all you have to do is remove the door panel (be carefull not to rip the plastic moisture shield. its held on with some really sticky tar like stuff thats annoying as hell, but as long as you dont rip it, youll have no problem putting it back.) once thats off, i think theres only 4 bolts holding the motor in place. thats pretty much it. dont quote me on that tho because its been a few months since ive done it and i dont have a photographic memory. oh, and try not to knock the coil off once you get the motor off. that would be the hardest part to get back if you do. other than that, its not time consuming and you dont need 4 hands or a friend. |
