Re: plastic blazer gas tank

are you looking at the gas tank itself or the gas tank shield? im pretty sure the stock tanks are steel and the tank shields are a hard plastic.

Re: plastic blazer gas tank

If it helps, I understand all Blazers GM exported to Japan had plastic tanks as standard. Can't confirm which was supplied in the US though.

Re: plastic blazer gas tank

my 00 jimmy has a 18 gallon plastic tank from the factory... i only know this cause it fell on my head when i was replacing the fuel pump a few months back... lol.. i filled three 5 gallon gas jugs with the gas that was in it and i still had plenty of gas in there...

if you wanna replace your metal on you are lookin at atleast 800 bucks cause the sending units are different as well.. ad also the tanks arent cheap... i was gonna pick up a new one and the dealer wanted 700 bucks alone...

Re: plastic blazer gas tank

it may vary state by state possibly... who knows why they did it... maybe its part of the factory tow package or something... its GM.. they do alot of goofy things... kinda like why do i have zr2 torsion bars when i have a gmc jimmy... or the fact that for right hand drive vehicles they make them with a e-brake lever instead of a pedal... i am trying to track down a part number for that setup... i want it so bad... .hahaha

If you want that setup you'll need the console with the slot for the lever. Our RHD Blazers have the gear shifter in the console as well. If you can fit it without the console all you need then is the lever & cable. Not sure of it's path to beneath the truck though. Also you need to bring your park brake switch wiring to the lever.

Re: plastic blazer gas tank

My 98 originally came with a steel tank, but I swapped it for a plastic one because my metal one got dented up.

Re: plastic blazer gas tank

Part numbers are impossible. These trucks came from Japan & we have no source for "new" parts here in New Zealand. I've tried to find a Chevy dealer in Japan with no luck.
If we need parts we get used ones from the Chevy specialist (no chevy dealers in NZ) They import used trucks from Japan & strip them to get parts. They also buy wrecks from insurance companies.
The only way I would think is for you to check with a GM dealer in the States & maybe quote the vin number from a RHD truck.
If it helps you can quote my vin no. 1GNDT13W9XK118620. I have a spare console & brake lever but it'll cost an arm & a leg to get it to you.

Re: plastic blazer gas tank

Weird news! I never knew they used plastic tanks, my 4X4 had a plastic shield on it and it's definitely a metal tank about 19 1/2 gal I think.

It's interesting to note that the steel tanks had a plastic shield & the plastic tanks have a steel shield!

Re: plastic blazer gas tank

I'm amazed that GM did not build ALL Blazers the same - even for export.
I can understand the LHD vs RHD but .....

Oddly, I'd have also expected to find your gas tanks on the other side too. (your passenger side).
