parking brake warning chime
2000 Jimmy
Just got my Jimmy. The other night I started it up and began to back out. First thing I noticed is the head lights did not automatically come on, switch is in auto position. Then I notice, and remember, the parking brake light is on the dash BUT it is backing up . I checked and the cables are pulling the lever at the wheel, so I think my cables are adjusted properly. I have read that backing up and applying the brake will auto adjust the parking brake. Is that by applying the brake pedal or the parking brake? If that doesn't work, I have found that I may need to manually adjust the cog or replace the pads. Pulling off the disk is the way to do this, correct? But my other question here; Should there be a warring chime, in addition to the brake light on the dash, when the parking brake is set and you put into a drive gear? Thanks |

Re: parking brake warning chime
and to properly adjust the parking brake for disc brakes:
1.) check all the cables to make sure they are not seized/rusted/rubbed through on anything. 2.) remove rear rotors and check the inside surface of the rotor for the parking brake shoes...should be free of rust. also check the shoes themselves. 3.) turn the starwheel and adjsut the shoes so they are close, but do not make contact with the inside of the rotor. i do this by taking the rotor off and making an adjustment then putting the rotor back on again,,,repeatedly. 4.) find your parking brake cable adjuster (long bolt looking thing attached to the end of the parking brake cable, under the floor on the driver side, next to the frame). the nut is probably rusted to hell, and isnt gonna want to turn easily. 5.) tighten or loosen the nut to get the parking brake pedal adjusted. if the pedal goes to the floor, tighten the cables...if the pedal goes down just a 1/2" loosen the calbes some. Hey, I'm new to the GMT330
These are the only two forums I've found. Any additional suggestions for good ones? |
