I just bought my first Chevrolet product today. So far I am not extremely pleased with it. It was an auction buy, so I'm stuck with it now whether I like it or not. I was sure that I had checked everything out on it good before I bid on it, but the problem I'm having was an easy one to slip on by.
About an hour and a half into the trip home, the hub on the front passenger side started trying to engage itself I guess. It would starting whining, then when I would get pulled off the road it would sound like a baseball card on a bicycle rim. After that, I figure there are pieces of hub in there now. It did it a couple more times on the way home. Putting it in reverse and backing up would disengage it. I noticed it only did it when I would cross the top of a hill and start down the other side as well. Since I'm new to these vehicles, and it was an auction buy, I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. I'll fix whatever is wrong and hope it is my only problem. Do any of you have an idea of what I should do for it now though? Where should I start looking for the problem at? I remember there was a reason I hated automatic hubs, tonight I was reminded of it. I hope someone here can help me out with this. ![]() |

Well,
I took the front tire off today to see what was up. Apparently these vehicles don't have hubs on them, not at the wheel anyway. I've been wondering, if someone had owned this vehicle and only used the 4-wheel drive during the winter time, could it have possibly been half stuck in or something? I checked the workings of the transfer case today, could turn the front drive shaft when not in 4-wheel drive, couldn't turn it when it was in. That kind of tells me that something must also have to engage in the front differential as well when the vehicle is in 4x4. Could there be a problem there that I can look for? |

Re: Noisy Hub....
I have somewhat of the same problem..a little milder though....my hub squeeks when I slow down to make a turn. I just sounds like it needs lubricated....but is that what it needs?????

Re: Noisy Hub....
600 dollars for a bearing? Must be lined with gold or something.
