Question New to Jimmy's

Hello everyone I just traded a cavalier I had for something Ive wanted for a long time, a Blazer/Jimmy. I do however have a problem that I have not been able to narrow down like some of the others I have been able to like the AC, pitman arm, and sway bar end link, so Im gonna describe it as best as possible..

I found a new issue that might not be too serious from what i read on other forums from people with the same problems. Anyways the transmission shifts perfectly fine and doesn't slip or anything but once as you floor it the truck hesitates. Its not throwing any codes. I'm starting to think it may not be a tranny issue but a fuel problem or the catalytic converter is clogging. It idles at 500 rpm braking at a stop light, AC off, which is what my cougar did before the fuel pump went out and one of the converters clogged. From what I remember everything just dumps into one converter on these things right? People have said it was as simple as an oil change with the same problems, and I know its overdue. The transmission fluid was dark, but didnt smell burnt. Im going to a transmission shop friday to get it flushed and the filter changed. Also you can hear the fuel pump run from outside the car.

Hopefully that leads us in some sort of a direction. I really love this truck and its in excellent condition, hopefully its nothing too bad.

don't flush the transmission, just change the filter and the fluid in the pan, when you say hesitate does it backfire, or misfire, because just because you gun it doesnn't mean its gonna launch like a missile. Is there a significant loss of power ? I mean do you feel like you have to press all the way down to get it to go ? you have to remember this is a 3800lb vehicle with a deceent v6 to move it but still its not a race car

Check your plugs and wires first. Also, before you do an oil change, pour some Seafoam into your oil. You can use the rest of the can to pour into your vacuum line. It'll also be good to go ahead and pour a can into your gas tank.

You should probably just do a tune up to see if that helps.

If you are unfamiliar with seafoam, read this thread: http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f107/seafoam-352790/

I can press it at 1/2 throttle and accelerate with no problem. Its just when I floor it, which I never do unless I have to get out of someones way, it doesnt go above 3-3.5k. Its not misfiring or backfiring or anything.

I forgot to mention that the previous owner said that it wouldnt start one day so he changed the fuel filter (it was clogged), and it started right up. Maybe the fuel pump is going out? The CEL isnt on or anything.

I am familiar with seafoam as I have done it to my cougar before (cropdusted my neighborhood, lol) I was thinking of doing that when I was gonna change the oil and trans fluid and filter this coming weekend.

I did make another post in the engine forum, i dont mean to double post my issue, but here it is anywho.

Re: New to Jimmy's

What year is the Jimmy? The one I've ben working on is an 01 with 91k and it idles at 500 when warm. My 96 S-10 idles at 6-700. (the Jimmy actually idles smoother too)

Ya, 500 rpm idle sounds way low. I Mine idles around 900. It's a '99 with a 4.3 and auto trans.

900 is way too high for anything unless it's 30* out and you just started it after letting it sit overnight. Even then it would go down after a minute or two.

Before my fuel pump went out, when I floored it, my truck would cut out for a second or two before it went. When my pump went out, I changed it, my fuel filter, and the plugs and wires. One of those changes made my truck quit hesitating.

Re: New to Jimmy's

Mines kind of doing the same thing, after about 3-5 seconds of flooring it it will hesitate at around 3k then it will go to 4k and go. Like I said theres really no need of me flooring it, I never go past 2500 under normal conditions.
