New Jimmy owner!!!

Hi Y'all, I'm a new Jimmy owner. I like it so far. This is my first CPI GM vehicle. I'm waiting for my LMC catalogue to learn more about the mechanics and body. The 96 Jimmy is an SL model. No power window or door locks. I'll have them installed when I add a security system. The first think I fixed was the dreaded P0422 code. Ya know the emissions leak one. Darn gas cap. The previous owner installed a locking gas cap. Do these vechicles have the anti-syphon trap installed? I've noticed that the fuel gauge jumps a little. Is this normal? Does it have a fuel warning light? Or does the Check guages light come on when the fuel reaches a certain level?
Once I decode the RPO codes, I'll know a lot more. The Jimmy is going to replace my trusted 91 Dodge Dakota. I'm gonna miss my little truck. I now have 3 vechicles at home! No way I'm getting rid of the 83. (http://www.geocities.com/abetterchemist/)

The first thing that is coming off is the step rails. I'll replace them with a factory model or 3" round type. Upgrades will include 15X8 or 17X8 wheels, CD player, speakers........
I have a lot to learn about this vehicle. In the mean time, I'm going to spend my time learning about the CPS engine. I'll make a few mods like K&N filter, electric fans, ram air, NGK plugs, a good tune.
What kind of gas milage do average user get?

Re: New Jimmy owner!!!

Thanks for the welcome. The previous owner sold me the Jimmy with a full tank of gas. Took 247 miles before refueling. I'm not sure how low the fuel guage will go. I assume this Jimmy has a 18 gallon tank instead of 19. So 15.5 MPG is not bad for now. It needs another 2 MPG to match my Dakota. I think I can get it to match my Dakota with a few minor changes. I have stack of receipts to go through. The previous ower was good at keeping the maintenance up. Now it's time for modifications! This is my first GMC with CPI FI. I need to buy a factory service manual. Ebay has several CD service manuals. I just don't know if they compare enought to match a factory service manual.

I hang around Chevytalk (http://www.chevytalk.org) all the time. I am a moderator for the 73-87 truck forum. Someone posted a link to this site and I followed it. As I make changes to the Jimmy I'll post pictures.
