New Fuel Pump gone bad from overheating?

I went to drive my Blazer yesterday in stop and go traffic and it dies on a 2 lane street in a city of 10 million plus with only a handful of people who speak English. Needless to say I was PISSED!!! I opened my door threw my back pack on the curb and just sat there. Cars, trucks, bus', taxis' were honking their horn cussing me out wondering why my 4 ways are on and the doors are open on my Blazer on the road. I know I don't speak turkish nor many of them speak english but, damn I figured this would be enough to say, "my blazer is broke"!!

Its back in the shop and the mechanic told me that my new fuel pump he replace a couple days ago went bad. He said it was overheating? After the truck dies, you can let it sit for about 5 mins and it will start and drive for about another 10 mins and die again. Also when I went to start the truck after it dies, the starter was screeching trying to engage on the flywheel. I was told this is because the fuel pump isn't sending enough fuel to the motor and it will make this sound if the fuel pump is not working properly. What do I do? Im almost ready calling it quits on this blazer.

Re: New Fuel Pump gone bad from overheating?

starter info was incorrect.. it will engage regardless of fuel delivery....
i would say screeching is missing tooth on flywheel...imo

fuel pump is mechanical or elec.?

Re: New Fuel Pump gone bad from overheating?

I replaced the flywheel about 2 weeks ago. The old one did have a broken tooth with 136K miles on it. I've taken it to before to a previous mechanic and got ripped off. This one that is working on my blazer now was referred by a Turkish American that works on Base. I do not know if the fuel pump is mechanical or not. All I know is that its on a 96 2WD 4dr s10 blazer. Thanks for the quick responses!~

Re: New Fuel Pump gone bad from overheating?

New update. My blazer is still in the shop. They replaced the fuel pump two more times only to have the same problem. He ordered one from Istanbul and this one even went out. Where can I get one with a guaranteed waranty? Thanks again for all the help and advice!~

Re: New Fuel Pump gone bad from overheating?

So sorry to hear that you are still having FP issues!

You might try suggesting to your mechanic to check the harness. The connections go bad and cause symptoms of a failed pump. Some new pumps come with a new harness because they go bad so easily.

I don't know if they ship to Turkey, but you might try RockAuto.com. GetGMParts.com has the best prices on GM pumps, but you will have to go to ACDelco.com or RockAuto.com and get a part # first.

Good luck!
