Need Help With Drl's

I got a friend to trade me her Envoy headlights for my Sonoma headlights, as she's gonna trade her Envoy in on something newer. I got her headlights and ballast/ignitor boxes off, then installed my Sonoma lights on her Envoy. I tested them out, they seemed to work fine. Low beams, high beams, blinkers and parking lights. I put everything back together, and took her Envoy back to her. When she came outside, I turned on the lights, and one wouldn't come on. I removed the clips that hold the light in, and the light came on. I ended up buying some new bulbs and replaced that one for her. It seems to work fine... BUT her Daytime Running Lights don't work at all! WTF? When you turn the switch, you can get all the lights to come on. You can cover the light sensor and get her auto headlights to come on. Why won't the daytime running lights come on? I need help FAST! She's about ready to tell me to switch them back so she can trade it in with the lights working properly! I checked the fuse, and it's not blown. What else?
Thanks, guys!

Re: Need Help With Drl's

It may seem like a dumb question, but, you did put the car in gear right? DRLs only come on once the vehicle has been put into 'D'....

Re: Need Help With Drl's

Actually, I didn't... She said it happened when she went to go to work, she noticed it. I have a 5 speed, so I was unaware that the vehicle must be in "D"... Are you positive? I know the parking brake cannot be on.

Actually, I work at a PBG store and i would prolly be the only one to notice if the front lights were gone from an Envoy and replaced with a Sonoma/Jimmy light....remember, its been 10 years since anyone sold these trucks new....

Parking brake must be off on both an auto and stick, but, on an auto, the truck must be in 'D' for the lights to come on....

Re: Need Help With Drl's

I know, I know. I thought the same thing. NO ONE FVCKING CARES!..... BUUUUUTTTT she thinks they will, and my dumb a$$ said everything would work the same as before. I'm afraid she will ask for them back if I can't get these things working! (No, I can't just ignore her, or say F-YOU!, she's technically familiy.) I've got to get these things working! I will ask her tomorrow if they come on when she puts it in gear. I know I saw some lights on when the truck was parked, though. I don't know. I hope this $hit gets fixed soon!

Re: Need Help With Drl's

Thought I'd bump this if anyone had any ideas...

What better way to bump the thread than... WITH PICS!

As you can see, she leans a little to the passenger side in these pics... I fixed that problem before taking her out for a drive... The rear passenger side tire deflates when sitting for extended amounts of time

Re: Need Help With Drl's

They don't work! When I brought her Envoy to my house, I had it in park, at least one of the orange lights was on. Now it's not (after the swap). When she drives it now, the lights don't come on (daytime).

Re: Need Help With Drl's

Any idea why the Envoy's DRL's are not working now that Sonoma lights are in it?

Re: Need Help With Drl's

No, I called within a week to check up, and possibly go over there and re-wire her lights if need be. She said, "Yeah, there's been a change! I sold it!"

I thought, "SAWWWWEEEEEEETTTT!!!!!! It's OVER!" I had a nice, 10 minute conversation with her and she seemed okay with her new ride and everything. The very next day, I get a call from her, telling me that she thought the trade "would be mutually beneficial." Yeah, she wanted some $$. LONG STORY SHORT, I'm gonna fork out $150 to keep peace in the family. $150 won't even buy ONE of the HOUSINGS, let alone the bulb assembly! I'd say it's still a good price, but I thought it was wrong for her to come back later asking for money. Oh, well.

Also, a quick update:
I have read some more on here, and found that different lights are on for DRL's on 4x4's than 2 wheel drives. Also, maybe the v6 vs. 4 cyl. I also think she just couldn't see the lights reflecting off of stuff, as the Sonoma lights are much dimmer. She did mention how dim they were. She said she couldn't even see 10 ft! (What a whiney BIHATCH!) That's all I could find. Now I just need to find out how to wire the quad brights, so the HID's don't turn off when switching to brights. I like the quad lights for brights anyways, so now I have an excuse, so I don't burn out my HID's. Anyone know how to? I've thought about it quite a bit, but can't think of a way to do it without disabling my DRL's, and not having my HID's on for the DRL's. As it stands now, my brights are on for my DRL's.

Re: Need Help With Drl's

Why don't you just hook up a relay that turns on the HIDs when High beam is on?

Re: Need Help With Drl's

I would, but the high beam is the DRL... It's on all the time during the day.

So, the DRLs are high beams on reduced power, right? So you have 2 circuits to the highs: DRL and full high. You need to find the circuit for the full high beams and power your relay to the HIDs with that. Prolly in the relay/fuse box under the hood. The relay will keep your HIDs isolated from the DRLs.

Re: Need Help With Drl's

I see exactly what you're saying, but I'm not so sure it's on a different circuit.

Look in your fuse/relay box under the hood. On my Blazer there is a relay for the DRLs and a relay for the headlights. The DRLs are the high beams on reduced power (inner lamps) and the low beams are the outer lamps. You just have to find the wires.

You need a good wiring diagram. The best are in Mitchell's shop manuals. They have the factory diagrams. I get them at my local library. You can also get them online but you have to pay. I think that it is $10 for a week, $15 for a month or $30 for a year's access.
