Need heat!!

The fan on my 96 blazer only turns on in the 3rd and 4th position. I was able to deal with it till today when the fan would cut out periodically for a few seconds and then turn back on. What the hell could it be? Its getting cold up here in canada!

Re: Need heat!!

It could be a bad blower switch or a burned out resistor bank. I'd check the resistors first.

Do you know if on a 96 the resistor needs to be cut out? Theres no unscrewing anything on the blower box.

I've heard that but I don't know if it applies to the '96 or not.
Just get an ohm meter and check the resistors for continuity. No need to cut if they test out good.

Re: Need heat!!

I just looked in a Haynes manual, and it does confirm that on Blazer and Jimmy models, the blower resistor must be cut out of the housing for replacement, and the replacement must be glued in place with black weather-stripping adhesive.

Re: Need heat!!

In addition to fixing it you might want to get one of those electric ceramic car heaters. Plugs into 12v acc.
