Moving Spare Tire
i have a 2dr and the spare is located on a swinging carrier mounted on the tailgate. I have seen several Jimmys/Blazers without a tire carrier that have the tire mounted in the rear cargo area. i want to do this to mine because the tire is a pain when backing up, a pain when going in and out of the rear cargo area, and just down right ugly looking. If anyone could help me out with how to set it up, like is their a special mounting bracket that goes inside on some of them? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Moving Spare Tire
I think the tire on the back looks great!
My understanding of the interior spares are that they arn't full size. Perhaps someone can correct me? At any rate, if you concern is really just cargo area clearance and backing up, then I would recommend a drop bracket. It will lower the spare about 3.25". This allows you to open the rear lift glass without swining the tire out of the way... And it makes backing up VERY easy because the tire sits lower and doesn't block your view. http://www.sblazer.com/sblazer_02.html |

Re: Moving Spare Tire
I hardly consider a 235/75R15 a "fullsize"
But if that's the tire you're running, then it's fine for you.I still think it looks best on the back, and I wish I could have that on my 4-door. |

Re: Moving Spare Tire
I think theres a company that actually makes a kit that allows you to lower your spare tire a few inches,to allow you a somewhat better view out your rear window.

Re: Moving Spare Tire
235/75r15 is about 29" tall, if thats not a full size tire for these trucks i dont know what is.
Thats what my blazer has stock. might be 70r15 though. not much of a diff. |

Re: Moving Spare Tire
I have all the mounts sitting in my garage for the spare. All it is a bracket that bolts into the floor and rear pillar.

When I bought my '99 2dr 2wd Blazer, the dealer told me the interior spare mounts was for only the 2wd models. Not sure if that's actually true, but my spare inside is the same size as the tires on the ground, which are still the originals now with 56K miles on them. Yeah, I know.....but I'm not too hard on tires here in sunny SoCal!! You can get cheap GM parts from Ken Fitchner Chevy in Montana. Tell Bob at the parts desk you are a forum member. I also own a C5 Vette and they treat me well when I need something for either of my rides. They won't rip you off like most dealers!
