Michigan to Florida & back; 20 mpg
I didn't see any recent mileage threads so I figured I'd post my own. I know it isn't the hot issue with gas prices down, but it's good to keep track. Regular mileage fluctuates between 17 & 20ish, with mostly highway use. Anyway, took a trip down to Florida last week and here's what I got:
odo reading, gallons, mpg 142915 143216 14.3 24.2 143461 14.1 17.3 143772 14.2 22.0 144057 13.4 20.7 144360 16.3 20.4 144589 10.9 16.8 144830 12.3 20.8 145107 14.8 20.5 145393 13.4 20.3 That first one is high due to the previous tank being a half fill-up. Either way the trip average was almost exactly 20 mpg. Spent most of the time at the limit +5 mph. The two fillups that were about 17mpg were heading up into the hills of Kentucky/Tennessee. This is a stock 2000 4wd 2dr Jimmy. The only things that affect this are airing the tires up to 35 psi (vs 32ish normally), removed the roof rack crossbars and added 'vortex generators'. Yeah, those things on ricers. I've seen the research that Mitsubishi did that shows they work, although I didn't do a before & after mpg check. Regardless, the wife thinks they are pretty, and it's her truck, so they stay on! Anyway, pretty good for a 14city/18highway rated SUV, at almost 150,000 miles. |

Re: Michigan to Florida & back; 20 mpg
WTF is a vortex generator? My last trip to Chicago I got 17.5 with my 98 4 door 4x4 Jimmy. I need to change my diff fluid to synthetic and possibly trans fluid and check the bearings. I know it should get a bit better mpg, just have to figure out how. I may try removing the roof rack cross bars since I never use it.

Re: Michigan to Florida & back; 20 mpg
This december we took a trip from Cleveland to Williamsburg in our AWD Bravada. Left at 3*F and travelled through the mountains in PA and into VA where it was 32* that day. Averaged 20mpg exactly for the trip there and back.
The sad part is that my full size 04 Sierra extended cab 2wd with the 5.3 that I just got will average 22 on the highway. The newer ones do even better. |

Re: Michigan to Florida & back; 20 mpg
Nice.
I can average 20 MPG at 80 MPH. 23 MPG with no wind resistance. I clean the intake sensor and put in a can of injector cleaner. When the MAS sensor is dirty, milage drops to ~21. Average 16-17 in the city in my 4 door Jimmy. I have only minor modfications. Ram style intake, K&N filter, updated FI spider, reprogrammed PCM, and 255/60R17 wheels. |

Re: Michigan to Florida & back; 20 mpg
So I'd have to remove my roof rack to get the MPG like this with the vortex's installed? Might do this to my neon but I use my roof rack. I wonder if the airflow would be interrupted too much to use on my blazer.
