LOUD humming on decel

I have a 1999 automatic 4 door 4x4 blazer.

When I accelerate above 45 mph and start a decel, at anywhere between 45 and 40 mph a LOUD humming starts that seems like it's coming from the front driver's side of the vehicle.

If I barely touch the gas the sound goes away, but comes back until I decelerate into the the mid thirty mph range.

The sound is not present, or maybe just not noticeable on acceleration only on a decel.

When I steer back and forth, while hearing the noise, it doesn't go away. The sound is present in the other gears as well.

The one interesting thing is that I can't reproduce it in four wheel drive.

I have had about a half dozen mechanics ride with me getting such interesting responses as it's a problem with the...

Wheel bearing
Transmission
Transfer case
Differential

While I appreciate their enthusiasm, that's a pretty wide variety of components to "examine" just to search for the cause at my expense.

You guys have any ideas for me before I fork over a wad of cash?

I would check the u-joints on the front drive shaft before anything else.

ur front diff. is taking a shit..... sounds like the inside pinion bearing to me
