I had a frei nd of mine snatch a couple of new chevy keylesrs remotes from the dealership he works at, and now i cant figure out how to program them . The manual only tells me how to program auto lock for the car. How do i program them to my car?

Re: Keyless Remote

Transmitter Programming

Important
Different keyless entry systems are used on General Motors vehicles. The parts are not interchangeable even though the parts may appear to be similar. Observe the back of the transmitter in order to properly identify the system. On 2000 S/T pickups and utilities, use a transmitter identified with GM/UTA preceding the part number.

With the driver door closed, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The remote control door lock receiver will respond in the following manner in order to indicate that the receiver is in the programming mode:
Locking the doors
Unlocking the doors

Important
All extra transmitters must be programmed at this time. When a new transmitter is programmed, the old transmitters will be deactivated.

Hold down the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter until the remote control door lock receiver will respond in the following manner:
Locking the doors.
Unlocking the doors.
Repeat step 7 for each additional transmitter.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.
In order to reprogram the remote control door lock transmitter with a scan tool, refer to Scan Tool instructions.
Memory Seat Recall Programming
Adjust the driver seat to the desired position.
Press the switch labeled SET. A chime confirmation will be heard.
Press the desired position switch labeled 1 or 2. Within 5 seconds from pressing the SET switch, a chime confirmation will be heard.
Press the UNLOCK button on the desired transmitter (key fob) within 5 seconds from pressing the SET switch. A chime confirmation will be heard.
The transmitter (key fob) is now programmed with the desired position switch. Pressing the transmitter UNLOCK button will cause a recall request to be initiated and the seat will adjust to position 1 or 2.
The stored memory positions may be changed without having to reprogram the transmitter.
The transmitter feature is available in all ignition positions.
Memory Seat Recall Unprogramming
Press the switch labeled SET. A chime confirmation will be heard.
Press the UNLOCK button on the transmitter (key fob) within 5 seconds from pressing the SET switch.
Do not press any memory switch or power adjustment for 5 seconds. Pressing a switch will cancel the unprogramming event and the transmitter will remain programmed.
The transmitter (key fob) is now unprogrammed and pressing the UNLOCK button will not effect memory seat operation.
No chime confirmation will be heard when the UNLOCK button is pressed if the transmitter is unprogrammed.

you would have to look for a brain box, and if you have one find the fcc number to match it up to the proper transmitter, if you are planning on adding an alarm i would just use that function on the alarm remote.

Re: Keyless Remote

On the 98's it was a little black box (about 3" x 3" x 1") and it was mounted up under the dash near the middle. I think the truck had to come with one, to get it to work. I had to have mine replaced one. It took a brain fart. Another thing, some of the recievers allow you to have 4 transmitters, but others only allow 2. Look on ebay ,they go across there once in a while.

Re: Keyless Remote

Larry I think he's asking if it would give him the factory alarm if he added the remote. Does the BCM have to be programmed to add this, if you even can, add it?

Re: Keyless Remote

It either has a factory alarm or doesn't, if it has no brain box the answer is no it doesn't. Before i would try to add a factory alarm, I would go after market . If he just wants remote door locks, there are units out there cheaper then he can by the factory transmitter for .

Re: Keyless Remote

it has the security thing that flashes in the dash.. and i arm it by locking the doors..i have set it off before by unlocking the door through the window. so to me that is a factory alarm... correct?

i bought the vehicle from a used car dealership and they didnt give me any remotes and it was repoed before that so the previous owner probably has the remotes if it had it.

i just wanna know how to check if it has(or had) keyless entry, and is just missing the remote.

thanks

Re: Keyless Remote

ok that is the pass lock system look for the brain box, if you have one you will need the fcc/model number in order to get the right remote. Or if you have a few different remotes for free try to program them using the above method you might get lucky and it cant hurt.

Re: Keyless Remote

I tried what LarryD. posted, and i got no response from the transmitter or the vehicle, So i took a look into the manual and it said to put my car into programming mode i had to pull the turn signal lever towards me and then turn it on and off. so i tried that still got no response from the transmitter or vehicle, now the blazer's locks, lock at 25mph
