Key sticking

Just bought the blazer a couple weeks ago. an 01 extreme. I got it at a good price, so i wasn't too worried about the few things that needed to be fixed on it. My main problem right now is the ignition switch. It seems like sometimes its hard to get the key to turn to the on position, but the most aggravating thing it does is lock up when you turn the truck off. The key will go back one position but not far enough so that you can get the key out, it seems like you have to play with it forever before the damn thing finally comes out. I'm wondering how easy of a fix is this, do i need to buy the entire switch assembly, or is there a smaller part i can replace. BTW i searched, so please dont flame. Thanks for answers in advance.

Re: Key sticking

It's probably not the switch but the lock that is binding up. You can replace just the lock cylinder. I've never done it but I've seen the proceedure in a repair manual.

Re: Key sticking

Next time it locks up try to turn the wheel a little while you wiggle the key.

Re: Key sticking

i've got the same issue with mine...

look underneath the key lock, on the steering column...
there is a small round plastic cap, pry that out...
when your key is stuck, push something in there and it'll allow you to turn the key all the way back so you can remove your key...

hope this helps

Re: Key sticking

Sounds like you're going to need a locksmith. But try all of the other tricks first cause locksmiths don't come cheap!
