Jimmy
http://bgky.craigslist.org/cto/1006134112.html
Hey, was needing some input from you guys here. I'm looking at something to drive and was really wanting a Jimmy/Blazer. Still paying on my lemon truck that keeps breaking down, but anyway, I've called the guy and here's what I've learned. The guy he bought it from put a motor in it not too long ago with 90,000 something miles on the new motor. The oil leak is in the exhaust and there is a slight knock on the motor. I'm going to look and listen to it Tuesday. The guy isn't too mechanically inclined and I'm hoping it's valve-train rattle because he said the knock got worse when the oil was low, but wasn't bad when the oil was full. He also said the knocking was near the valve cover (fingers crossed). He said when he heard the knock he parked it and it hasn't moved since in two months. There's a crack in the windshield but other than that the truck is immaculate inside and out. I'm in between bills and would need a 400 dollar or so loan to make ends meet and still be in the comfort zone. Granted it isn't too serious of a problem, but I can't be dumping money in two vehicles right now. But what would everyone else say. Is the oil pump starving the valve train for oil and he's confusing detonation knock for valve rattle from too little oil? Or is the motor closer to needing a rebuild? Also forgot, he said that his friend is a mechanic and a oil pump would fix the oil leak in the exhaust. But there was knocking and the motor would need new main bearings and rod bearings. If that is the case I could still could do that with the motor in the truck and pulling the oil pan off. I've had to do the exact same thing with the El Camino a few years ago. Sorry if this should be in the 4.3 section. Last edited by RIP84elk : 01-24-2009 at 09:46 PM. |

Re: Jimmy
Yeah, I'm teetering one way or the other. But I'm going to have to find something else for a daily for a month or two in april or so, want to get my truck looking somewhat nice with new paint.

Re: Jimmy
I live 45 min from you. With that many miles on it you're going to have a lot of problems out if it and it's probably pretty rough inside and out.
Also know that in Ky we have free windshield replacement. |

Re: Jimmy
90,000 is not a "new motor". An exhaust system does not have oil in it so should not be leaking oil. If it is running that much oil through it, an oil pump WILL NOT fix it. If your oil pump isn't working, it will not pump any oil at all. If you are dripping oil thru the exhaust but not smoking terribly bad, then you have a crack somewhere. And if the motor needs new main and rod bearings, to do everything correctly, you need to pull the crank and have it polished, check all clearances, etc. More or less a total rebuild. But if you want to cobble it up for resale, then you can do it that way. It just won't last too long until you spin one or get the knock back. |
