is there some trick to remove rear view mirror?
Just bought a 99 Olds Bravada. I notice the mirror shaked up and down and it looks like it's loose on the metal bracket that goes on the windshield. In the past there has always been a torx screw that you could loosen or tighten. This one appears to snap on somehow and I'm at a loss as to how to get it off so i can tighten up whatever I need to in order to re-install. Right now I just have a folded up reciept jammed in there to keep it from bouncing, but I would rather do it the right way. So what's the special trick or tool?
Thx. |

Ive never had mine off but maybe there is just a plastic cover that you are seeing and then there is a screw underneath it?

Re: is there some trick to remove rear view mirror?
my 90 grand prix there was a screw holding the mirror to a peice of metal that was glued to the window, i used a pair of plyers and just kinda wiggled it til it fell off. Im sure if u use a heat gun on it and let it blast for awhile the glue will just make it fall off

Re: is there some trick to remove rear view mirror?
Anyway, I did some searching on the net and found several companies make a tool that has a bent metal tip with a rubberized handle. Since it's a flat curved piece, little chance of damaging the windshield. I jsut don't want to shell out $30. Also called three dealerships. Not a single one had any clue what I was talking about. (service guys) Guess I'll live with the piece of paper jammed in there for a while, or until I find someone with the tool. |

I think i just typed rear view. You cant be too specific and theres also people that will spell words wrong and mess it up. Dont use the google search at the top of the forum, it sucks. Instead, click the word search right before the box and that brings you to a much better one.

If there isn't a torx screw holding it on, there will be a clip. You can't see it unless you get up on the dash and look up at the mirror. I used a flathead screwdirver and a towel to get my mirror off. The towel was for the window.

Mine just fell off while adjusting it one day...
But mine just slides down a "track". So slide it up against the windshield if that makes any sense? If you are trying to get the bracket off...i think we just took a razor blade against the silicone and worked it off |

use a small flatblade screwdriver and tap upward and it should come right off.
