Intermitent Fuel Pump
I have seen numerous posts about people having problems with the engine cranking and not starting. Also some more about fuel pumps that would run some times and not others. I just had this problem with my '99 Jimmy. I did everything that people sugested, and it still did not resolve the problem. I replaced the fuel pump, checked all of the grounds for the fuel pump, looked into the ignition switch, and even the oil pressure sending unit. None of these resolved the issue.
I did finally find the problem. It was the socket where the fuel pump relay plugged into. I was messing around with it again, and stumbled across the problem by accident. I rested my hand on the fuse box with the cover off and the engine stalled, and would not start again. I applied some pressure to one side of the fuel pump relay and I heard the pump kick on. I pulled the relay out, slightly bent the pins to make them a little wider, and I stuck the relay back in. I have not had a problem with it since. I don't know if this will help anyone else, but if it happened to me, it certainly could happen to others. Hope it helps. |
