Installing new speakers

My friend has an 02 blazer and he bought some 5 and 1/2 inch speakers. He was trying to take off the door panel but didn't want to break it. Does the speaker cover come off alone or is it a whole piece to take off? And do you need a special tool to take off the thing you turn to roll up and down the windows?

Thanks,
Nathan

Re: Installing new speakers

are they crank windows? if so you need a removing tool to do it easily.

Re: Installing new speakers

Nobody has mentioned yet you got the wrong size speakers. They need to be 6 1/2" not 5 1/4"

Re: Installing new speakers

anything will fit, make a 6.5" adapter plate to mount up, with a 5.25" hole in it.

Re: Installing new speakers

The tool sucks. I bought one and it's useless as I can never seem to find the clip with it. I just use a rag and wrap it around the shaft behind the crank and move it back and forth till the clip snags on the rag and pops off.

Re: Installing new speakers

There's a C-clip holding the window crank on. Pry it off with a screw driver, or slide a thin rag behind there and it should pop right out.

Re: Installing new speakers

the easy way is to use a small allen wrench, slide it in flush with the door panel turn it and pull. its the easist way i have ever done it.
then put the clip back on the handle and push it back on when your done.

Re: Installing new speakers

oh trust me, major pain in the ass. you literally gotta pull the panel from the doors aaallll the way to the back gate. i got a with leaving the back clips on and CAREFULLY moving the front enough to get to the speaker. Worst design ever !!!!!!!!
Doing door speakers is mad easy, took me and a friend only about 25 min to put dash and door speakers in his noma lol

Re: Installing new speakers

I just installed 6.5" speakers a fews ago.

Click on the picture to see the photo album. I used a wire hook to remove the handle clip.
