Hub Bearing Gone........but which one?

Time to replace another worn hub bearing assembly.

Trouble is - which one? Here's the symptoms:

When driving straight or turning left - it makes noise.
When turning right it goes away.

I seem to remember that it's the opposite side from which the noise goes away when turning, in this case - the drivers side.

Anybody confirm this?

Re: Hub Bearing Gone........but which one?

The rear doesn't have a hub bearing assembly.......

Without a doubt - it's the front.....only which side?

It's a bit of a pain getting the center nut out.......but other than that - it's really just a half hour job.

They still last a long time from when you first hear the noise. If you can get it up in the air, you can see the play in the bearing by pushing on the wheel, if its really bad or just by rotating the left wheel and then the right and listening. 100 -150 km is all they last.

Re: Hub Bearing Gone........but which one?

I changed it last night.

Good thing I did it when I did - there was a helluva lot of play on it!

Ended up getting one from Napa for just under 3 hundred bucks.

I found a couple of places that would sell me used ones - only they are just as likely go after six months so I went new.
