How many miles until you're concerned?
If you were looking at a used Blazer how many miles would it have to have to scare you away from buying it? Or how many miles did your Blazer have to reach before you started worrying about its reliability? The reason being is I found a nice Blazer for sale with 150,000 miles. Should I worry?

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
my white blazer has 160,000 on the body and 120,000 on the motor..
every issue i am having is from me lifting it.. and i still drive it every day...300+ miles a week... my red blazer has 180,000 on motor and body...i would drive that any where |

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
Depends on how it was maintained really. Ive seen some beat to crap cars with 50k miles on them. ASk for some maintience records or whats been recently replaced. It will give you a good idea of its history. Look at it from top to bottom searching for new parts. should be pretty easy to spot with something with that many miles. Ive got 125k on my Blazer and jsut about every issue Ive had was form the lift/tires.

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
Well, I ment to say - i wouldn't by a daily driver with over 100k on it. UNLESS it's something like a beat up toyota(or something like that) to run back and forth to work out in middle of wyoming.

2.2L-200k no prob. 4.3L-100+=a no no. 2.8 is doomed from the dirt.

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
Yeah you can run a 2.2 into the dirt man...
The 4.3 has more problems... Both can be run 100+K with proper maintenance. |

Why is the 2.2 more reliable than the 4.3?

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
I picked up an '89 blazer 4x4 4.3 tbi with 106,xxx miles (now 107,xxx) runs great, still has lots of power. The tranny shifts great. (automatic) It all depends on how well it has been maintained IMO.

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
Only the transmission over 100,000 miles would be my big problem. I bought my Jimmy because it had a tranny rebuild less than 1 year. I plan to drive it up to 200000 miles before buying another daily driver.

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
87 2.8 auto 4x4 over 200k on stock motor, 3rd tranny but every one I've seen has had problems unless you add a big after market tranny cooler. Motor smokes a bit and leaks oil from all the normal 2.8 spots but runs strong for what it has dragging it down (auto, 4x4).

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
i bought mine (97 4dr blazer 4x4) with 138k on it.. rebuilt tranny less than 120k, new ignition switch... kind of feels like the a solenoid is going on it or somethnig when the tranny is cold, but once it warms up theres no problems. I just put new plugs/wires/thermostat and we're going to clean the egr son because im sure that its clogged by now haha

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
i bought my white 95 x cab 5 speed 4.3 with 250,000 miles. it has 274,749 on it and i drive it anywhere and everywhere. hell ive driven it to mississippi 10 times at least in the last 3 months of owning it and its 300+ miles one way. miles dont mean shit if its taken care of. u can have a car with 1000 miles and run like shit.
oh ya i bought my 91 blazer with 190,000 it has some where around 230,ooo and ive done alot to it but because i wanted to not because it needed the maintance. both vehicles i paid no more then 1600 for. the blazer also has been to mississippi and those trips were 850 miles round trip. Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
I wouldnt buy anything with over 100k. But the 4.3 has had the track record to run over 175k with minimal problems. Like others said its all about the maintenance. The previous owners driving style could have alot to do with how the vehicle will run.

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
had a 95 sonoma 4.3 with 165k. the tranny went at 140. That was the only issue. Now I have a 2000 jimmy with 99k. just tuned it up, new plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, cap, rotor etc. I try and take real good care of it bc I know the 4.3s will last when well maintained.

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
I am just shy of the 300k mark on my 95 daily still runs like a champ I wouldn't be concerned a bit to buy one over 100k if ti has been taken care of. my bro just bought one @ 320k (91) it's still running, but he is going to shove a 350 under it anyways..... other than having some rear end noise it's a great running little truck
My neighbor has a 2k1 that dies about every 75k cause he never does anything to it... not even oil changes. he swears up and down it's the biggist load of S he's ever bought. (he's a ford nut) thought I was lying on my milage till he rode in mine. just goes to show what a little TLC will get ya |

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
I have 200k on my tutu. I'm not worried about it, and plan to keep it to 300k+. motor has never been opened up, and it still has factory spec compression. Like everyone says as long as you keep up on maintenance you golden.

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
I just bought a white 96 Jimmy with a 4.3 with 147k miles on it and it runs fine. I used to drive an 84 blazer with a 2.8 and 260k on it, it made two roundtrips between Arkansas and Florida with only a fuel filter clog, and it had an oil leak.
If the vehicle has between 12k and 15k for every year of age thats not that bad. |

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
New member here and when I saw this thread I felt I needed to share. I have a 93 S10 pick up, standard cab and short bed, 2" drop front and rear, 4.3 auto trans that I have been commuting in for 9 years at 100 miles a day. It has never left me stranded. I change the oil regularly and thats about it. It now has 340,000 miles on it and wouldn't think twice about a long trip. I use it to drag a 19' boat to the lake and does so with no problem.
I had such good luck with it that last night I decided to buy another. I just got an 02 Blazer with 88K, 4.3, auto and power everything. I hope this one treats me as well as the last. |

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
i dont start worrying until 150,000 when im buying one....if i own the car/truck/suv myself i would be confindent driving the thing past 300,000+ miles just because i do maintance on mine all the time so it has very little down time. its all depends on the up keep of the car.

Re: How many miles until you're concerned?
i bought my 98 with 154K on the clock. on everything. motor blew a week after i bought it. spent 6 months saving and droppin a new 4.3 into it. i wouldnt buy it. unless you have the $$ for a new motor, its an LT with every option, and your not needing to be very dependant on a vehical.
