Re: hood flew open
I'm having a hard time figuring out what you did though. You say "you arent going to use any of the vette cluster insides." but then "the lights get unsoldered from the blazer circuit board, and attached to vette cluster with wires."? What do you mean when you say "the vette cluster insides" and then "attached to the vette cluster"? Sounds like the same thing (cluster). And why do you have to attach the Blazer lights to the vette cluster? Doesn't the vette cluster already have those lights? Like high beam, check engine, turn signals, etc.? I'm sorry for the dumb questions but I just don't understand. |

Re: hood flew open
My cowl hood on my V8 S10 did that too. I had a 4 3/4 cowl, and it did the same thing.
And for the gauges, am I the only one who is looking past the Corvette gauge, and not liking the hacked up dash bezel. Yuck. Sorry, that's just me maybe. |

Re: hood flew open
That sucks to hear about your windshield....
Does the Corvette gauge cluster "test" itself whenever you start the truck? As in, do all the gauges go to the "max" position for a second, and then go back to their normal position? |

Re: hood flew open
Question about the hood. Is this common? I noticed the blazer air grill in the used 2000 I just got looks like yours after the smash. And also noticed someone put an excess "goop" of gear grease all over the hood latch. There was so much grease I used the excess to lube the door hinges.
Have to make sure the water seal caulking stuff is well done. So anyway is this something to worry about? I got enough problems in my life to be like "oh s**t" when thehood flies up. lol |

Re: hood flew open

Re: hood flew open
I dont have glass coverage on my insurance, never needed it really, and the windshield was $150 to replace so i wouldnt get anything anyhow for it. Hood cost me another $350 painted and installed, and $40 for the vent piece new on ebay.
That cluster pic on my site is an old one seller sent me, i since re-did the cluster and the whole bezel, made the cuts much neater (had to replace the bezel for some other cracks). I dont have new pics yet, my steering column had something spilled on it and looks nasty with white spots like something ate through the plastic, once i get that replaced i'll take some new pics ![]() |

Re: hood flew open
You say use the motors from the blazer gauges, but wouldn't it then display speed and RPM incorrectly? I don't get it.

Re: hood flew open
seriosly sucks about your hood... it seems to be a common thing on these trucks because of the hood release location... i know i have opened mine by mistake a few times going down the road... but more about the vette guages
can i get vette guages on my jimmy.. i think that would be sick... honestly how hard was it from a scale of 1-10.. i have al the wire scematics and know how to read them... i undestand you about using the blazer back half and the vette front half i think... can you please go into to depth a little bit jsut so i get a general idea of what was done... also i am great with fiber glass so i may even be able to help you guys out that want it done on making it look clean... cause thats what its all about right |

Re: hood flew open
So what caused the hood to fly open? Is it a common thing with after market hoods? I have a ram air hood and now I'm a bit worried. My after market hood bolted on and seems secure with the hood latch.

Re: hood flew open
It wasn't latched down all the way, pay attention next time you close your hood. Basically he was riding with his hood popped.
