Help!! I Really Screwed up

I called myself trying to install a car alarm, and shorted out my electrical system. My question is it really fried or can I just replace fuses. The only electrial I have is the power locks, and the headlights. Everything else is dead. Any Suggestions?

Yeah same here, when I was wiring the stereo, my ground line became unground, and blew two fuses. It should be a cheap fix.

Re: Help!! I Really Screwed up

Was your ignition switch on when you arc'd the wires. If so you might have burned the contacts inside the switch. Theres several contacts in there and one runs most of the vehicle, one does power windows and speedometer..... Something to check

Re: Help!! I Really Screwed up

I checked some fuses. Replaced one that was definately blown. But as you said, the radio still does not come on, the A/C does not work, power windows are inoperable, and the speedo does not work. What else do I need to do to get this going?

Re: Help!! I Really Screwed up

Which one was "definately blown", and where was it? under the hood or the inside fuse panel. If you tell us what was blown, maybe we can figure something out. There are plenty of people on here that have moved their fuse boxes, and plenty that have shorted stuff out. Someone should be able to figure it out..

Re: Help!! I Really Screwed up

My truck is a 95 S-10 Blazer LT. All the fuses on the drivers side look good. Unless there is one that is actually blown but just don't look blown. Should I go ahead and change all of them anyway? Is there something under the hood I should replace? What about the relays that control the AC?

Re: Help!! I Really Screwed up

Meter all your fuses (specifcally the radio fuse) to see if it's actually good. Is it an aftermarket radio? If so you should have an inline fuse on the harness that shoul be checked too.

Re: Help!! I Really Screwed up

I metered all of my fuses. They are all in working order. The Power windows, AC, Speedometer and radio still dosen't work. The transmission also does no shift. All I have now is forward and reverse.

Re: Help!! I Really Screwed up

Hey i had the same exact problem a while back with my 95. Except mine took a dump while on the way back from a car show, you said you checked all the fuses, but what about the brake fuse? that will cause the tranny not to shift. But i had to replace the ignition switch, and it went bad WHILE DRIVING on the highway doing 80, no kidding. 2nd ignition switch ive had go bad while driving. As soon as i plugged in a new one everything started working, windows, speedo, tranny, abs light went off. They are 125 bucks at dealer, from what ive been told do not get the ones from the auto parts, they are junk and still 100-115 bucks. Good luck

Re: Help!! I Really Screwed up

I went to a salvage yard today and found some huge maxi fuses. in the 50, 40, 30 amp range. Where are these fuses located? Does anyone know?

Re: Help!! I Really Screwed up

For future referance, be sure to disconnect the battery before you alter the electrical in any way shape or form.

Re: Help!! I Really Screwed up

ok, so you checked all the fuses underhood, as well as in the side of the dash, right? before spending any money, i would unplug the battery for a few minutes, and plug it back in, and make sure that the connections are tight.
