Re: heat help?
if you heat only work when your driving and turns cold when you're idle, then it's likely you system isn't bled properly
**** I've just bought my jimmy 2 months ago, so I havn't really worked too much on these cars so I don't know if the cooling system needs to be bled after replacing, but I know that my previous cars this happened so I thought I'd throw it out there |

Re: heat help?
You're going to need to give a lot more info to help solve the problem. We dont know when sometimes is, for how long, etc.

Re: heat help?
you probley have air in the lines... there is a bleeder valve right above your thermostat... open that up when the engine is cold and then start it... let it sit there till it starts to warm up then close it... what you should have done to begin with is filled the engine up with antifreeze before you put the thermostat on and then finished filling it after it was good and sealed...

Re: heat help?
in the left side of this picture, right above the rubber hose you can see a square head plug. Directly under the thermostat. It will depend on what year the truck is which you never mentioned. Need more info still. Describe the problem in detail.

Re: heat help?
or run the engine cold with the rad cap off and keep topping off the coolant, works for me. Heat is amazing.

Re: heat help?
lol Not to whore or hijack, but I replaced my thermostat and I didn't bleed it with that plug or anything. I have heat, but it's nowhere near as hot as my 96 S10, would that maybe be why? Although, it never has a problem with heat being gone all of a sudden or the temp gauge dropping or anything.
