heat from vents

my blazer blows hot air when the heater is not on. my a/c does not work and i am going to get it fixed but i did not know if this would be a problem. i replaced the heater core a wile back and lost a piece and so one of the vent diaphragm s is always open.

and on a second note my compressor does not come on. i have read many articles that says that with the s10/blazer/etc... that the computers turn the compress off so when and if there is a leak the compressor is not hurt. is that right and hot to know if that is my case or is my compressor actual bad. and where is a good place to start to look for my leak / hole in my a/c lines?

thanks so much. hope some one helps me.

The heat from the vents(the ones near the floor) is a normal thing with s10s and blazers. I know a local guy that put a shut off valve on the hose that goes to the heater core to stop the heat from coming in. Just have it closed in the summer and open then valve back up in winter. Dunno about your compressor issue.

Re: heat from vents

guys, i had this prob earlier this summer. i have an envoy with all electric/computer control. turns out my air door actuator broke and the air door was sucked open to the heat side. i took off the part (on top of the evap unit) and turned the car on. then muscled the door open with my hand and instant cool air. it was a sweet victory. too bad the part is about 75$ at my delco parts store.

good luck. there should be a thread on this forum somewhere with more info.

Re: heat from vents

The way i suggested is more complicated and involves buyig some parts. I tryed that method with disconnecting that gray vac line and plugging a bolt into it. It does work and a/c still works and the heat. Cheapest mod ever haha. My g/f even noticed without me tellin her what i did shes like wow no more hot feet after driving on the highway.

well, the air door blend is what i replaced. it's a funny part. the natural vaccum of the vent system, sucks the door to the heat side until the control unit tells it differently. why it goes to heat is beyond me.

does that help? for my envoy there were three screews holding the blend door controler in place. its a tight hand squeeze, but def worth the struggle. good luck.

oh and im replacing spark plugs tomorrow, so i'll have some of my own tight spots to work my hands into. any tips? wanna help? jk

Re: heat from vents

Recently had the blend door malfunction on the '98 blazer it has the electronic (#'s around the temp selector) a/c system. I was quoted somewhere in the vicinity of $240 at dealer and around $150 generic, needless to say I pulled the thing apart and repaired it for free. Works good now.
