Re: Headlight Blackouts

I never understood this. Why dont people want MORE light on the road? I cant get the road and surroundings bright enough.... couldnt imagine doing black out covers. If for nothing else, its a safety issue.

yea, and btw, step savers arent safe. a roll pan doesnt absorb energy like a bumper. it will crumble like foil. what if you got rear ended?

Re: Headlight Blackouts

well I didnt ask if it was a good idea or not in other peoples oppinions. I do live in the city with well lit roads and even if its dark im sure its nothing the brights cant solve. And if it really is bad I can just pop them off unlike spraying tint on them! But I see people with these things on at night all the time and they still seem pretty bright to me.

Re: Headlight Blackouts

They don't to me, but that's just my opinion I guess. Plus I run HIDs, so I'm above you on the light output scale.

Dont let this dumbass get to you. He did the same thing in the tinting tailights thread. Hes just lookin for an argument involving lights. Im getting a feeling if this guys is sooo afraid of getting hit in the dark he A: shouldnt drive at night or B: Paint in truck in some glow in the dark paint.

Re: Headlight Blackouts

"glow in the dark paint"? That's a good idea.

To the OP: I bought a set for my '96 Jimmy (RIP). The fit sucks, tbh. Had a hell of a time getting the grille back on.

I'm with ChrisNJ, fwiw. I wouldn't black out my headlights unless you're running HIDs. Headlights aren't just to see, they're also to be seen. If you find some smoked headlight covers, you might save them for shows or cruise night at the drive in (they still have those, don't they?).

Re: Headlight Blackouts

I had a set of AVS brand covers on my truck a few years back. They looked really good I thought but I lost one on the highway. The light output is much less but whatever I still saw the road fine with them.
covers:
spray tint:

got them locally by the way

By all rights, you are really supposed to pop them off at night so you can see. They are for looks, not for night driving.

Are my Jimmys running lights supposed to allways be on? (my headlights, just dimmer than full on) I cant find a way to get them off. I just got the truck not a week ago.

hit the dome override button three times and they'll go out the you can manually use you switches for headlights, parkinglights or fogs

By all rights, they're for off-road use. I only wish I knew you back then so you could have told me what I was supposed to do.

You don't have a pushbutton under your light switch?

Re: Headlight Blackouts

Either you're truck is an export (meaning it was built for something other then the US/Canadian market) or you just aren't seeing it.

The pushbutton should be directly below the circular headlight switch on the same panel.

Re: Headlight Blackouts

I was wondering, did anyone check their state laws? Last I checked blacking out the head and tail lights of any street legal vehicle is illegal. You way not get pulled over for it, but if some one hits you theres a really good chance it'll go down as your fault. Even if they hit you. Any modification that alters visiblility in a negative way is illegal. just my 2cents.
